That doesn't make them right o be run by us, just because it works for other teams. A good OC calls plays that suit his personnel, well...?

Now that we see what Canada and Tomlin have for 2023, all doubts are removed: They stink at calling pays that get WRs open, it's safe to say.

Canada’s game plan is pure vanilla and the FO needs to decide whether it’s him lacking any imagination or the players not being able to handle anything more

I'm guessing you've been paying attention enough to realize how many times this topic has been brought up prior to this last debacle of a game.

Not only regarding Canada but Pickett is gonna need to get in gear very quickly. They put a lot of money into this defense for it to be wasted on a 3 year learning curve for Pickett. If he doesn’t get in gear this season, they seriously need to look at other options. before the Minkah and TJ window closes.

Kenny was a major letdown yesterday. No doubt about that. Missed reads, horrible throws and bad fundamentals were all on display yesterday; aspects that he was lauded for coming out of Pitt.

This all said, the young Offense struggling isn't so much of a surprise as young teams tend to struggle; doubly so when it comes to skill based positions. However, given the amount of young talent on the Offense... it is fair to critique Canada for some of yesterday's play calling.

This article by Alex Kozora highlights an ongoing issue for Matt Canada; better summed up in three words. That said and, as @JackAttack 5958@JackAttack 5958 pointed out, this major problem of an equation is two folded. Here is another article by Josh Carney detailing the lack of deep field shots.

    What the hell?!

The thing is, he is going to need to be Cliff Stoudt bad for Art to move on from him. THAT bad. Kenny was a Rooney pick all the way, regardless of how many of you try to question it. Rooney has to give his thumb up for 1st round picks, period. He wasn't ABOUT to be "Marino'd" again, no freakin' way. This isn't the 49ers (who admit mistakes and move on) this is the Pittsburgh "slow and steady we go" Steelers.

Canada will almost certainly see out his contract, the time to move on was at the end of last season, we are stuck with him now.

There is no doubt that yesterday was a whole-system failure and that individual errors were a big factor but that doesn’t change the fact that the underlying offensive scheme is not NFL standard. The 49ers read the offence like a book yesterday and were ready for anything and everything the Steelers tried.

It is hard to understand why they haven’t tried to upgrade at OC when it’s a clear issue for some time.

Isn't the OC also responsible for coaching his players up and getting them prepped to perform well in a game? Pickett was awful, but he also has been good at times. What is the OC or the staff doing to assist in getting him ready to have a good game rather than a poor one? Players play, but coaches get them ready. Or not.

He’ll get until the end of the season before he’s officially let go. But if things don’t improve soon, the team may give Sullivan more input into offensive game planning. Not that his track record as an NFL OC is amazing, but he’s got a lot more NFL experience than Canada.

Kenny Pickett was absolutely horrendous. He was forcing and rushing things, and was missing wide open reciecers or didn'teven see wide open receivers misreading defense or rushing the plays. He was so awful that not even I can defend that effort. I expect him to bounce back from his worst game ever and produce.

Canada definitely isn't blameless. We're talking about a coordinator that's managed to get to 20 pts nine times in his 2+ years as OC. It was an awful all around game from the OL to the RBs.

Credit gotta go to the 49ers as well. They have the #1 Defense in the league for a reason.

49rs are very good, they were very underestimated by most of us here, in StillerNation. We got an ass whooping. but we are just a .500 team, that is all we are. and we are that, for MANY MANY reasons

Hopefully they are starting to see. As another article said

No matter how bad a team is losing, an 84/16 passing split is asinine, even in the modern passing league.

STD, I think Kenny sucked proverbial balls yesterday but the play calling seems atrocious to me as well. On that field with that strong of a D the second play being a jet sweep seemingly because Austin had a bing gainer in preseason was a terrible call. Everyone on the planet knew Najee was getting the handoff on the 1st down of the 2nd series. Just no deception or complexity in our play calling. Canada's route designs seem jv and a lot of former NFL players seem to allude to that. Still a coaching problem at Head Coach, OC and DC as our team was not prepared, looked horribly slow and flat and were manhandled yesterday. I wish all three would have been canned last year but we are too cheap to bite the bullet and start over when we have a young QB which is the time to do it. Noll had his time, Bill had his time and Tomlin did as well but due to PC police these days ARII won't do it, no chance.

Strangely the only thing that this article lacks is anything related to its title. Sounded like a typical Tomlin post game presser and talking about the failures in game that didn't allow them to possess the ball. Where is the quote that says he is infuriated by Canada's game plan.

Actually that was AR2. This was on Pickett. He crapped the bed. He wasn’t accurate and he made poor decisions. He threw high. He threw behind. He threw into the dirt. He had two interceptions, but it could have easily been 4.
