I never developed the hatred for the Cowboys that some Steelers fans have. Losing to them in 96 stung, I wanted so bad to remain not only undefeated against them in the SB but to remain undefeated in the SB period.

It was against Dallas the first time in the SB that I became a Steelers fan, on a bet against my brother. So in part, Dallas is kind of responsible for my being a Steelers fan, and because we beat them those two times early on, I never developed any hatred for them. They had some likable players, likable coach, I guess I respected them. About the only thing I can't stand about them now is their owner.

They have always been the antithesis of "Steeler football" to me and when I was a kid all the girls liked them because they had a pretty boy qb. I couldn't stand them and they are the first sports team I've ever truly disliked. There have been many since but they were the first. They are up there with the knicks, lakers, and braves. As of right now I hate the rats more but I'm sure there will come a time when the rats will be bottom feeders and the rivalry will die down a little. The cowgirls will always be that team I can't stand. They were a huge bandwagon team when I was a kid and I just couldn't stand that. Deion is one of my faves of all time but when he went there he was my sworn enemy. Then he left and I loved him again. I just feel it is in Steeler fan dna to despise that team. Imagine how I felt getting to watch my first Steelers SB and having to lose to them. I still have a bad taste in my mouth because of it. I've never let go of my disdain for that team.

He was more of a clean cut, boy next door but, Aikman a pretty boy???? I remember him having the same rumors about him as Garcia and Kordell.

Well wasn't he sorta considered a pretty boy at the time though? They ran like this "cutting edge" offense and stuff like that and I've even seen interviews where some of the Steel Curtain guys talked about how they despised all that stuff and just wanted to line up and hit people. You're right that I was talking about Aikman though. Also Emmitt Smith was another guy that I couldn't stand. Also Michael Irvin REALLY got my blood boiling. Also Jerry Jones. I still remember laughing like crazy when Bebe kept them from scoring on that SB play.

Jerry's boy took a page from Jimmy Johnson and drafted a nice Offensive Line. To bad an accident waiting to happen is behind center.

Don't have to worry about the crows, NE took care of them.

They have won two playoff games in eons but some of their fans act as if they have already won the Super Bowl.

This is exactly my thinking and history too...kinda crazy. My brother liked Dallas in the 70s and me the Steelers. Not sure why Steeler fans hate Dallas, since we owned them until NO handed them the SB in 96.

They have whined about the Steelers of the 70s for years and continue to til this day. "They get all the calls" "We got screwed" blah, blah, blah. It surprises me to hear older fans being indifferent to them. My uncle was a die had Steelers fan from the 70s and he hated them with an absolute passion. What's funny is my dad is a cowgirls fan but he doesn't mind me being a Steelers fan. If my son liked them or the rats I would be devastated. LOL.

Yeah but they were winning by like 900 points by then :lolol:

Agree about Irving, I liked Emmit though, and Aikman. I even got a kick out of Jimmy and his perfectly coiffed hair.

Yeah, to each his own i guess. Kinda like Peyton Manning...he's never beaten us in a meaningful game, so I have no problem with him. Yet, some Steelers fans hate him, but I don't see why. Dallas obviously gets a lot of media love, even though they don't win many games. Some people hate them for that, for me, I don't pay much attention since I don't watch that crap.

I'm a big manning basher but it has more to do with living in East TN where the man is basically worshiped. There are SO many bandwagon colts and now broncos fans around here and they are incredibly obnoxious. Steel1031 would attest to it I'm sure.

Yup I became a Steeler fan in 95. Tired of hearing around here "WE ARE BACK", and "THROW THAT MFN X UP", "WE DEM BOYZ" lol. I swear its ridiculous. I don't hate the team, I like Romo but can't stand JJ. The fans are THE WORST, but Steeler fans can be equally ridiculous.

If I have a son who ends up playing for Dallas or Baltimore, I would be a HUGE Baltimore/Dallas fan. That is the only time. Steelers would still be my #1 though.

If the officials give a win to the cowpukes today they wont make it past seattle next week, those Hawks are obviously going to represent the NFC in the super bowl again this year, best team in the NFL by far on both sides of the ball, only question left now is who is going to represent the AFC???? We know one good thing for sure, it wont be the rats........

If you were around in the 1970s you know why the hatred occurred. It wasn't just playing them in the Super Bowl, it was that they were a far more popular team nationally at that time than the Steelers ever were. If you were a Steelers fan, living outside the Burgh area, you grew up at that time knowing tons of obnoxious, front running Dallas fans. There was no better school day in my life than walking into my 7th grade class the morning after SB XIII and collecting the 25 cent bets I had made with about a dozen Cowboys fan friends at the time.

However, much of that hatred has faded for the current team. I don't like them, but I would root for them over the Patriots or any AFC North team a million times over.

This may be blasphemy around here, but I'm going to say it. Seattle, right now, reminds me very much of the 2 Steelers team that won SB 9 and SB 10. Not nearly as good- never. But they are a throwback kind of team and those 2 Steelers teams are whom they are throwing back to. Rooting for them to repeat.

This! Honestly they remind me of when we used to play Steeler football. They lower the boom on everything that moves and they play with an intensity that we haven't had in years and honestly I'm not sure we've had it in my lifetime. 08 is the closest.
