I stopped measuring when we passed 2 feet. Still snowing, and expected to until well past midnight.

The clowns around here told us how we were going to get "shovelable" snow but we only basically got a dusting. We got like 4in Wednesday and that's probably the biggest snow we will get all year. Sigh........ Some people have all the luck.

Oh I don't wanna shovel it! I just wanna stare at it out the window and play in it. My wife was mad that we got snowed in during the week but then on the weekend we couldn't get any. We live on a HUGE hill in the sticks and snow is really disruptive here. We didn't get to have church Wednesday night because of 4in. Tomorrow we will get to have it but just because of the inch or so that we still have it will keep a lot of people home. Thursday night I had to go visit with a family where the dad shot himself and left behind a 7yr old boy, 13yr old girl, and a wife and they live on one of the biggest hills in Maynardville and he did it at the bottom of that hill in the woods. Because of the few inches of snow that was on the ground it took the rescue squad over two hours to get his body out of the woods. That's how hard it is to manage snow down here. They had to tie a rope around him and hook it to another huge rope and make a wench to get him out.

Sorry guys and girls but I don't feel too sorry for yins. I live in the secondary snow belt up here in Ohio and we've only had about 4 inches so far yet this year so I know it's only a matter of time before we get hammered.[IMG]

We're not used to getting this much snow either. We're used to being warned but we usually only get a few inches. I'm not sure the guys that drive the plows & salt trucks know what to do with this much snow. When I was in school, I remember staying up late because the weather channel said we were supposed to get a bunch of snow. I'd wake up to a dusting. We wouldn't even have a delay.
The man you were talking about- that's a horrible situation all around. Can you tell me their first names so I can pray for them? I know firsthand how suicide can shatter lives. You said that you had to go visit with them- are you a Pastor?

I am a pastor, yes. I went over to have prayer with the family. I'm actually not pastoring right at this very moment and I just go to church with them at my home church which is where we are at when I'm not pastoring. Their names are Garrett, Chloe, and Darla. Their dad was named Brian and we still don't know exactly what caused this. His wife is in my wife and mamaw's Sunday school class and she had been requesting prayer for marital problems and just last Sunday his little girl came to the altar for prayer and I got down and prayed with her and I really figured that's what it was about. My wife's dad was very close to the guy and I had worked an extra shift that night and had only been home for about 30min and I just heard my wife weeping and then screaming and she told me that Brian had committed suicide and I just couldn't believe it. So I went and my pastor went and the Sheriff was there and another preacher buddy of ours who is a deputy and they asked me to stay and make sure the family didn't see them moving him. In our town everybody knows everybody and I actually go to church with the Sheriff's family and am really close to a lot of them. His first cousin is married to my wife's cousin. The law down here really appreciates preachers coming to people's homes because I guess they feel we are a little more equipped to deal with grieving people. I can tell you that it's not fun to have to ask someone not to go outside because it just makes you feel really awkward. This is just a really horrible tragedy and your prayers would very much be appreciated.

Because you're old and decrepit of course. Did it creak when you turned it??? LOL!!! I'm 34 now and mine is starting to need a little WD-40 every now and then.

The key to preventing snow in your area is to go out and purchase a brand new bright shiny jumbo snow shovel. I did this about 6 years ago after we got belted with 2 feet of snow here at 4000 ft in the So Cal desert and I had nothing to move snow around with other than a puny shovel. Haven't had a flake of snow since. It helps that it has a black handle and bright yellow blade - makes for a great year round yard ornament.:herewego!:

We usually get much more snow here in southwest Ohio than we've gotten this year. My kids have had one snow day and that's about it. I think last year they had 5 or 6 snow days by this point, and more to come after that.

The weather folks had originally predicted that we'd get a ton of Snow this past Friday, then the prediction changed to late Friday afternoon, and then we ended up getting absolutely nothing. In fact, it's warmed up to the point that I'm getting ready to go outside and wash our cars in a few minutes.

In September of 2012, me, my parents, & younger sister found my 20 yr old brother John laying in the driveway his friends place (where he'd been living) with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He didn't have any of the "usual signs". He wasn't depressed. Our town has a small festival every year. John was down there for a couple hours watching a friends booth. A lot of people saw him down there, I saw him that (Friday) night too, at a gas station. He was fine, he was excited. He was a Freemason & he was going to be in the festival parade that next morning. He was supposed to go home but he went to another friends place & drank alcohol after I saw him. That's not unusual in our small town but he shouldn't have tried to drive home. He wrecked his truck a couple 100 feet from his place. He and callled my Dad around 2 am to tell him. But the phone cut out because my parents & sister were an hour away at our camper. They called me since I was closer, and I went out looking for his truck. I found it in some weeds, up against the side of an underpass. He wasn't there. After the wreck, he walked to his place. He was a skinny kid & he hit a culvert when he wrecked. We think the fear of the police (he'd never been in trouble before), being dazed from hitting his head, & being intoxicated made him make a horrible mistake.
I'm sorry, it's crazy what you end up telling strangers on a Steelers fan forum. My point is that no one may never know what caused Brian to do this. It's one of the hardest things, having someone you love so much get taken away from you by their own hand & you don't know why. It's great that yinz go people's houses & pray with them. I'd imagine they're going to need you a lot more. Before this happened with John, I always thought that suicide was an unforgivable sin. But now I think that depending on the situation, it can be forgiven. Again, I'm sorry I typed so much!

Man that's awful to hear and I'm sorry to hear it. If you ever need help or your parents do I'm sure there are a lot of good Support Groups around. Sadly this stuff is so common that there are a lot of different groups to help people deal with it.

Thank you, I've been to support groups & of course some counseling.
I feel terrible for that family because I know what they're going through & I wouldn't with that on anyone.

I just got in from shoveling & shoveling & shoveling snow. I can't imagine having more than the 19 inches we got here. I don't think the kids around here are gonna have school. This town just doesn't have the resources to get this snow cleaned up quickly.

Yeah our county cancelled school again tomorrow because the ice just can't melt on all our shady country backroads.
