Feel like this has been said here already but don’t see it.

May be searching for a new OC already.

Did he also interview for the Jets or was he just rumored to be on the list?

ARTHUR Smith is just a little better than Matt Canada ---Isay See you later. GO..NO-- no huddle, no quick passing. not enough passing --not enough spread off. just terrible. Too many pitch backs --screens --all the wrong things.

Kaboly was on 93.7 this morning talking about how Russ and Smith often didn't see eye to eye on the offense. Doesn't anticipate him being back. They weren't enemies, they just weren't on the same page.

It's hard to know how much of Smith's ideal offense we got to see? Fields limitations are documented(trouble seeing the field/reading defenses), and Russ is an old, combative smurf, who can't see over the line. He might've even been changing plays.

He might be able to convince other people that he doesn't suck due to reasonable doubt.

I wondered after reading this if Wilson went rogue with the way his play dropped off. Seemed like he went back to playing his way, wants to play hero ball.

So if he leaves we get nothing for him, doesn't a coordinator have to be here at least 2 years to receive anything for him if he leaves?

Yeah, I think it’s just because if you take away the deep stuff he has nothing else.

That would be great if he moved on. I would love to see a young innovative guy get hired and build an offense around Fields that utilizes his talent similar to what Washington did with Jayden Daniels. But I am dreaming again because that is not the Steeler way.

Also reported was how much Arthur Smith liked Justin Fields and was not a fan of starting Russell Wilson this season. Now we know why Tomlin took ownership of the move to start Wilson.

I wonder if Tomlin forcing Arthur Smith to start Russell Wilson left a bad taste in Arthur Smith's mouth. I thought the same thing when the Steelers got rid of Kenny, after watching the interview where Arthur Smith talks about how much he is looking forward to coaching Kenny Pickett.

New rumor is that Arthur Smith and Justin Fields are heading to New York.

All I saw were pretty much designed runs for Fields or options. He showed no confidence in him actually playing actual QB which is a big red flag for me.

I think it applies if a minority coach or personnel gets hired by another team as a head coach or executive

I know its only one down but a huge down nonetheless, his first down Yards this year was worse than Canada's last two years. That's how bad our offense was this year and he's the architect. We didn't score a touchdown on the opening drive the entire year and usually that is sometimes your best shot because you've scripted it and the defense hasn't been able to adjust yet. We need better and with possibly a new QB its not as bad as changing offensive play books 2 or 3 times in a young QB's career say if Pickett was still here. If Russ is here he should be able to adapt as a veteran.

BTW, are we gonna regret not bringing Vrabel in. Reminds me of a Cowher type but Cowher was smart to get proven coordinators. I truly think we need a hard nosed guy!!

The Steelers front office guy Sheldon White is scheduled to interview for the Raiders GM job, if he got hired the Steelers would receive two third round picks.

Might wanna kick the bucket on Russell Wilson then. Make the announcement indirectly as opposed to wait. All this screams to me is more of a pre-emptive strike on Smiths behalf should Russell Wilson return (something Id be shocked about if that were the case).

Under Matt Canada, our offense was a laughing stock that was at the bottom of the barrel in the NFL. It was horrible beyond belief.

With a new OC, I don't expect miracles in one season. Arthur Smith was without a doubt much better than Matt Canada.

While I don't expect miracles in one season, I do expect to see steady improvement as the season goes along and he's able to mold the offense into being the team that he has envisioned. I did not see that. As the season went on, at best I saw stagnation. I would even say that towards the end of the season I saw regression.

He has only had one year, and I would hope that next year would see a vast improvement under his coaching. However, based on what we saw this year, if he gets a job elsewhere I am not going to be upset.

Steelers didn’t get rid of Pickett

    He ran from competition

Had he stayed he might have played some this year and might have been in good shape for next

Oh never mind he didn’t have the talent
