Hargrave was a 4-3 defensive tackle stuck playing the nose. Unless the Steelers switched to a 4-3 base, he was always going to be somewhat limited, which is why keeping him wasn't as high of a priority for the team.

Absolutely. I was aiming more at the exceptional ability Big Snack had early on.

Personally, on running plays up the middle, I saw Hargrave going backwards far too often.

Agreed. He was a good player and I think he will be even better now that he is in a 4-3 with the Eagles, but he was never on Hampton's level.

I don't think so....like mentioned earlier, he played at 290. I don't see a lot of success for a sub 300 NT. And that weight is one year AFTER playing college for a pro team in the XFL. Can he gain weight, sure. Will it be good weight, IDK and how long will it take. Hargrave came into the combine at 309. I'm sure he added 20 lbs over the course of his career. Walker would have to gain 20 just to come in at what Hargrave did as a rook.

Seems like Demarcus Walker with the Broncos type guy to me...not someone you want at NT. He would seem to fit better at the DE rotation imo.

    Hey turtle.

I do no know if you have seen my post wanting a Casey 2.0 type NT. It is out here on the Board. Anyway, I personally, do not want Javon 2.0. Do not get me wrong. Javon was very good. Casey was great. I constantly hear all the counter-arguments as to bringing in a Casey 2.0 If you get a chance read my Thread about this as it outlines my vision for this. Let me no what you think. The majority that responded feel that a player like Casey would be outdated and under-used. However, my vision is based on the premise of substituting and sub-packages.

most of the people against Casey 2.0 are probably thinking we have to go first round a la Hampton out of Texas back in the day. The true NT is still viable in today's NFL imo, but it doesn't require a 1st round pick like it may have back then. That gap plugging, run stuffer can be had in the 3rd or 4th round. Everyone bemoans the run defense but when they want the ammunition to stop it, they balk. The team needs to spend the draft capital to get one imo, and Davon Hamilton seems like a good target in the 4th. Chris Wormley is a run stuffing specialist and the team traded for him, that should tell you what you need to know on how they want to strengthen their d-line. Wormley isn't suited for NT but Hamilton is by most accounts. Alualu is too old to rely on full time as the NT. He will break down over the course of the season. Great depth but......

    Hey turtle.

Your Quote: “That gap plugging, run stuffer can be had in the 3rd or 4th round”. Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes! Even though I want Billings.

I am telling you, as well as everyone else here, and I have mentioned it lately, that the “running game” is subtlety coming back. Tennessee and what they did throughout the season and the playoffs is my best example. There are other teams as well that have started leaning more on it. I realize that it is still pre-dominantly a passing league but things tend to come in full circle.

Teams will take notice of what Tennessee did and will want to emulate that. “Copycat League” as the saying goes. At least in part. There are only so many quality QBs left in the league. Manning Brothers and Luck are gone. Ben, Brady, Brees, and Rivers are almost on their ways out. Who really is left? Mahomes is very good. I like Dalton for us very much and uhhh….that is all I can think of. So yes, when one looks at it from that standpoint, the run may be returning more and more than some people think. Time to prepare for it is now.

    Hey jeh1856.

Your Quote: "And I want to be tall, thin and good looking. That ain’t happening either".

All can be obtained, if you have the money. You would be amazed regarding the advancements in medical technology. Even the getting taller part (smile). Take care.

Why do players choose to go there over coming to us? Its not money all the time, because most of these contracts are very doable by us

I'm sure those other teams had more cap space than the Steelers, and those other teams don't have a QB like Ben making around $34 million in 2020. Cleveland won the offseason in 2019 too, and they still sucked .

I learned a long time ago, if you tell a joke, and no one gets it, it wasn’t a very good joke. But keep working on it.

    Thanks

Since he hasn’t played in 10+ years, I totally missed your point. I still do, but I’m going to assume the problem is on my end.

When considering XFL talent is there any indication that the XFL teams are even on a par with major college programs? I know it's probably impossible to determine outside of pure speculation but could the top XFL team even compete against a top tier college system like the SEC or the Big 10. I'm assuming most signings out of the XFL are pure camp fodder?
