Just kidding.... :lolol:However, he was released by the Cards after escalators in his contract upped his 2013 salary to over $3 million. I wonder if we'll kick the tires. He did have his best season with us in 2011 (for whatever that's worth), and was a serviceable starter for a decent Cards defense last season.

However blasphomous this may seem I would put money down that the Steelers will give it serious consideration, but only if they could get him for relatively cheap. He will find a team though. There are many worse CB's out there..........I really can't believe I just said that, however I do believe it's true.

I agree. Even though I said "just kidding," I think he would be the 4th best corner on our roster if we bring him back. However, our young guys would be cheaper, and if we bring back Gay it could stunt the growth of a guy like Brown or Victorian who have shown some potential. It will be interesting to see if we bring him in for a visit.

Honestly for a vet exception, I have no problem with him coming back if you assume that either Lewis walks (doesn't look like that will happen right now) or if the team believes he gives us more ability than VanDyke or Victorian. He would probably be the 4th best CB we have on the roster, unless Brown (who I still think may need to move to S) takes a serious step forward this year.

I will say this for Josh Victorian: in his first game, he was absolutely awful. Embarrassingly bad.

In his second game, he was way, way, way better.

Still nowhere near starter material. But logically, if he made those kind of leaps in play every game, he would be in the Hall of Fame by Week 7 next year...

Maybe he'd just rather live back in Pittsburgh haha.

But IF...IF...he did come back I'd have no problem with him being a #4 or #5...as if Lewis is back then it will be Ike and Lewis with Allen next then after that whoever wins that spot (ideally Brown)...and Gay was a decent STer too.

We shall see what it could mean though.

Mark Kaboly reports he'll be visiting this week. The link to the article didn't work for me, though.

I actually would like this move, assuming he comes dirt cheap... I would love to have Gay as a 4th CB and special teamer. I know a lot of people will balk at that, but you can't tell me you wouldn't have LOVED to have Gay in there at Dallas when Josh Victorian was getting abused every single play.

If he comes cheap...I'd love it. I know he used to be public enemy #1 for Steelers fans, but he's come a long way.

It scares me from the sense that given Pittsburghs penchant for keeping experience on the field over youth, that it could interfere with Cortez seeing the field, I think he could be a pretty good player and flashed some skills as a playmaker. No one else but Troy can hold onto anything back there.

Great waste money on a player who used to get burnt all the time, at least he won't be a starter if he returns he would probably be okay as a 4th cb if Lewis re-signs. Brown hasn't shown he's capable of covering anyone more suited for special teams.

This man has given me more nightmares than Freddy Krueger! WOW Josh Victorian must be REALLY bad if THIS is his replacement. I know some people think this is ok but for me absence has NOT made my heart grow fonder. Gay has been victimized by more qbs than I can even name and in turn WE have all been victimized by Gay.

    La de da....

For those who hate this (not me...I'm ok with it depending on $$$ and where/when he's gonna play)...you can all blame Steel Elvis for creating this sarcastic thread that turned into the real thing (potentially).

Just wait until I start my "bring back Ricardo Coclough" thread! That will complete our stable of corners who know the scheme.

I can get why some people don't want to see Gay back. Setting aside Lewis and Allen, who now have the experience and are clearly better than Gay, if we have young guys like Brown, Victorian, King, Van Dyke, etc. who are improving, bringing Gay back could stunt their progress. However, the guy who has the most "pedigree" back there is Brown, and I saw nothing last year that would indicate that he will even make the roster next year. He was pretty much terrible in all respects. I didn't like Gay as a starter, but as a #4 corner and core special teamer, he brings bang for the buck.
