Yup. Plus he's been relatively injury-resistant.

While it would be nice to have an extra 1st round pick to help solidify our OL, Wallace is a proven commodity whereas a rookie could potentially be a huge bust.[/quote:296f06ij]
Not to mention, "new" Tomlin or not, how long might it be before we see production from whoever that first rounder is? I'd say 50-50 between right away and 3 years.

I say let him go to me he seemed to give up on a lot of plays and we cant have that. Who is to say those plays may have changed a L to a W but that is my opinion

Take the money and run- uuuuuuh i mean the compensation..... cross your fingers he gets an offer.
Isnt compensation like a 1st and 3rd? or was that the old agreement or am I way off? Lots of very good atheletes in FA and in the draft.

Plus seeing him walking back to the huddle after pass plays in denver, costing us 1 TO and a delay of game, I dont care..... games are won and lost up front.

Well I am not sure which way I would go,,,,,but with the new Rookie scale high end Talent is Cheaper,,,so if we get a 1st. and a 3rd. I would really think long and hard about it,,esp if it was a top 15 1st. rounder......At which point I would probably pull the trigger on a Franchise LT then with our #1 I would pull the trigger on a premier OG who fits the BA scheme of course.....

I think 2 1st round talents could work there way into starting roles during the pre season.....Would be nice to see a OL of a Stud LT,Big Doug,Pouncey, and a Stud RG and Gilbert.....

IMO this would be worth sending Wallace and we would still have a 2nd. and 2 3rds. to work with to get what could be immediate impact players...I wouldn't be above putting those together and getting 1 of the top ranked FS'S or SS'S to bu that position as the way we stay hurt back there and our sub packages this position could be instant help...

Plus we have showed the ability to get good WR'S later in the draft so get Ben the protection he needs and Gain starter quality depth at a postion of need would be woth it to me....Would not do it to go straight BPA I would target these 3 spots if I made the Wallace deal....

Tender him an offer that gets us a 1st if he goes elsewhere.

But do not get into a bidding war over him. If someone else wants him badly enough to give us a first, take it. We have other areas of the team that need shoring up more than WR.

(And if he gets signed away, resign Cotchery at all costs)

This is a tough call for sure. Id be happy either direction if the trade pick up is of equal talent and goes to the o-line.
    Pros for the trade

    - his 2nd contract will be for big money and even with veteran cuts we will still have cap issues trying to sign new draft talent. He might demand too much.

    - we still have a deep wr corp with him gone.

    - his issues with not catching balls might have more to do with Ben 1) not having the great long ball a wr llike he needs to make that play. I saw Ben miss a few to him early as well. 2) the o line can't protect Ben long enough for him to plant well to make the right throw so his speed is useless anyway.

    - we have lost two first round wr picks recently and found replacement talent.

    - top quality wr are found all over the draft at a far higher rate than top lineman.

    - I don't like "young money crew". That sounds like head case material. Breaking up that moniker might be a smart preventative measure.

    - ariens doesn't use him properly anyway and only baits this fool to only go for the bomb too iften.

-we don't know that the trade won't be a bust

    CONS TO TRADING HIM

    - I think his heart, hands, desire, abilty and team chemistry are all great, I don't know what anyone is talking about in reguards to this kids talent.
    - we
-we know what we have in him. No waiting for him to get up to speed, learn the offense, yadda yadda yadda... Top 5 wr right now.

    - where would the trade happen and would the player we want be available? What team? Brady would love to have him and use him perfectly and the kill us with him. Just sayin...

-maybe our other young guys lose their effectivness and we ruin the chemistry and talent pool.

-he seems to stay healthy and Sanders not so much so far.

-his trade might be a bust.

    - rare speed that makes the D respect the deep ball and spreads the field.

All in all, not an easy decision. I'd be happy either way.

Not at all. He hasn't even been around long enough. Teams didn't even really start focusing on him as a threat until mid season and it's something he just hasn't got used to yet. More time and experience will fix that.

Where is the first round pick? End of the round or the pick of the team that signs him?

How is this even a question? Yinzers are in full force I guess. YOU TENDER WALLACE AND HOPE TO WORK OUT A CONTRACT. He is a top 10 receiver in the league (maybe top 5). Unbelievable, dude gets double teamed for the first time and is underthrown a ton by an injured qb and you all want to run him out of town. Should trade Ike too huh? ha unless he wants 12 mil a year you keep him and he won't.

I agree I think Brown is the better receiver and I also think that next year Sanders could blossom. Cotchery won't be back and if Ward takes less $$$ to stay he will be here. Draft a receiver later in the draft and let him learn from Ward and the others. I'm willing to bet next year Wallace has a better year and we will all be saying what a steal his contract is.

You sign him. When was the last time we had 3 WR's on the field that could could take it to the house at anytime? He is pretty young and he is working on getting better. I think he and Brown are a very dangerous tandem. And how many times did Ben miss Wallace wide open? There are several instances in which Wallace had easy TD's had Ben hit him in stride.

This is a no-brainer to me. Plus he is not a head case like Holmes etc.

I don't believe Wallace is a top 10 wr in this league. All he has is speed. Once people figure out how to cover him, he disappeared. He would be a top 10 receiver if he beats some of those double teams. See, Calvin Johnson, and Larry Fritz.

I do believe he signs a mult-year deal contract and he stays but it would not break my heart if someone gives us a number one draft pick for him.

If the Steelers were to tender him and he signed elsewhere - where does the 1st round pick fall? Is it at the end of the round? If so, it's not much better than a 2nd Round pick.

The team that signs him must give the Steelers a 1st round pick in the next draft, so obviously a team like a Colts probably wouldn't sign him. If a team has multiple 1st rounders, they can give the Steelers their lowest 1st round pick. I could see a team like the 49ers making a run for Wallace since their pick will be very late in the 1st round and they could really use some outside speed.

Sign him.The guy is still learning his craft,he has been in the leauge what 3 years. He has something that can't be taught,SPEED,he is a younggood receiver with a VERY GOOD teacher,Hines Ward.He isn't big headed and haven't got that diva mentality and isn't a distraction in the lockeroom. He will go cross the middle to catch the ball.Sign him, don't let this wondeful talent get away.

I'm not so sure he is not "big-headed". Before the season, he predicted 2000 yards. Maybe he is just keeping his ego in-check because of Ward's presence and mentorship. I could go either way on the sign/don't sign Wallace debate. He hasn't yet shown me that he is a "Steeler for life" kind of player. That may change over time, but I'm not yet convinced that he's not a diva.

We should sign Wallace, he will only continue to develop and get better. He attracted a lot of attention the 2nd half of the year, including constant safety help, which enabled Brown to have 800 yards receiving in that stretch.

Comparing anyone to Megatron and Fitz is a little unfair. But I'd be interested to see the stats of the 2nd best WR's on those guys teams. They are such freaks that their QB throws the ball to them all the time even though they are double teamed. We are luckey to have a talent like Brown opposite Wallace that when he is double covered Ben can look elsewhere...

Funny how everyone forgets all the drops by Wallace and only remember the miss fires by Ben. How about the one Wallace let go right through his hands in the Denver game? Very possibly we win that game had he caught that ball. 1st round picks are gold, I'd be very tempted to let him go if we got one of those.

We have to sign him. As much as we hardcore blue collar Steeler fans hate to admit it, this is not the rushing NFL it once was. We need to have an elite passing attack to be successful. Wallace is very much a part of that elite attack.

I agree with the others, that Saunders has a lot of potential. Trouble is, we'd waste it like we've wasted Heath. You need an OC that's willing to take advantage of this talent, and that is something that we just don't have.[/quote]

It will be wasted if something isn't done to shore up the o-line. I'd like to see the TE used more but the truth is the o-line was really bad, 3 man rush and still no time to throw shouldn't happen in the NFL.
