Sounds a lot like Spicolli (OP) vs Mr Hand (The Steeler's Way).

I suggest we all go back and delete our posts so that the OP gets their final demanding wish with - "enough!" The silence would be deafening.

Vick does NOT belong in Black and Gold!!!!
    Period...:stogie::banned::club::mad:

His case is different, in that we knew who he was/ what he did, and we signed him, anyway...

I think that is what`s shocking to most who are surprised...

I know we are no angels...

We have had our share of questionable characters, but, for the most part... They didn`t stay here long...or they shaped up, before they got "shipped out"...

    Orrr...

As fans, we just didn`t know what went on, before the current 24/7 news cycle/ instant info of the internet age...

The thing that shocked me with Martavis, wasn`t what he did, but that I had heard no clue, no "red flags", leading up the news...

And I don`t judge him for what he did, I just think it`s a damn waste of a hell of a talent,
but, if he`d rather get high, than make millions of dollars, and, THEN, get high...

That`s his choice. I don`t like that it hurts our team.

And, yes, a lot of us "older" fans, do take pride in the way the Rooneys have run the organization over the last 70 years or so..
Maybe not perfect, but with a lot more class, and integritey, than 90% of the other teams in the league...

It kinda feels like a slap in the face, when they do something as blatant as signing Vick.

As for why we don`t just quit supporting the team, it`s exactly because of that...

I can be pissed at this choice, or that, but...It`s a TEAM!!!

We still have people like Heath, and Heyward, McCullers, DeCastro, Garvin, Spence, Grant, Shazier, and McClendon, and Ben, and Deebo,(Yeah, he had issues, but, he`s honest!!), and recentley, Ward, Polamalu, Aaron Smith, etc...

Can`t quit cheering for guys I like, because the front office made an uncharacteristic, bone headed move, by hiring a frieking worthless, dog killing, waste of human flesh!!!:thumbsdown::icon evil:

Or by choosing to pair a guy who, by all accounts was a good character guy, in Bell, with a questionable character, like LaGarette Blount(If ever a name fit a person...)..

Yes, Bell needs to be accountable for his actions, but does anyone think he would have made those choices, if Blount wasn`t here, with him?

    I don`t know, but I doubt it...

Anyhow, YES, we, especially, us "older timers", hold this team accountable to win, but win, while displaying a bit higher standard, than the other 31 teams we are competeing against!!!

That`s part of what gives us pride, in rooting for our Black and Gold!!!:herewego!::herewego::steelflag:

    GO STEELERS!!!

I'd think it would be creepier if Big Ben had telepathic powers, because that is what he would need to know that those women had fake IDs. (It also wasn't so long ago that the minimum drinking age in many areas was 18, so it is a bit weird that buying drinks for 21 is acceptable and for 20 is horrifying.) Doesn't make it right for him to act like a crass frat-boy, but hardly rises to the level of what Vick did for many years.

Actually it would be AWESOME if Ben had telepathy because he'd know what every defender was gonna do on every play.

There is a Steeler Way. It involves great defense and a running game. The Steelers as an organization are better than the others. Let's just look within the division. While Vick served his time in Jail, Ray Lewis never went to jail. And Vick will never be the face of this Franchise. To watch Ray dance like he's slicing someone's throat while Flacco is taking a knee was just disgraceful. They also signed Donte Stallworth after killing a man.

The Bengals don't take football seriously. They were formed to be the second coming of the Cleveland Browns. They haven't won a playoff game since the original poster of this thread was in diapers. For years they didn't come close to being near the salary cap. And they had more criminals on their team than there are in Congress.

The Browns are a factory of sadness. The Major League movie could be made about the football team and it would be just as fitting.

So yes, there is a Steeler Way. Which is why we fans get a little queasy having these distractions. We will accept it, cheer hard, and continue to live our lives. There were many who 5 years ago were done with Ben, but wouldn't trade him for anyone in the league now.

I consider the "Steeler Way" to also be that we build, almost exclusively, through the draft. We don't make a lot of high profile trades and we don't spend Scrooge McDuck type fortunes on "big name" free agents. That's part of what I love about being a Steelers fan is that I always know who will be on our roster and I can watch their career unfold from start to finish. Not many teams can say that in this day and age.

If you remember in the 70's the raiders were known as the criminal element in the NFL. They turned it around and had some people calling us the criminal element

All this crap about the Steeler way is something made up by the fans, the Steelers are in the business of winning. Yes they are a classy organization and do things the right way, but some fans get carried away with the thought of the Steeler way stuff.

I like the Steelers, but you definitely can't put athletes on a pedestal. Case in point Lance Armstrong, Tom Brady, Lawrence Taylor, OJ Simpson...

I think everyone deserves second chances though if they truly repent, no one can really judge anyone unless you walked in someone else's shoes.

What is the Steeler way anyways? Is it Art Sr. who basically made his money on gambling? Maybe it is more Dan Rooney's morals?

To me it really was only ever about the style of football... tough defense, run the ball. The Steelers build through the draft and don't chase big free agents? The Steelers are a football team run by the original family and they care for their players... that is all you can really say about them.

Not sure if I got this "Quoting " thing right... last time I did it, I wound up inserting my reply, into the "Quote", I was ""quoting"...

    ANYHOW... if this works...

Can you explain to me, why, when we very rarely sign "big name" free agents,

We chose Michael Vick, as one of the rare "big name" free agents we chose?!?

I can think of at least 3 other qb`s available at the time, whose physical skills were at least comparable to his, and didn`t have the "baggage", that he did..

    Veteran, or not...

I just don`t get why we took such a divisive individual(at least to OUR fan base), when we had other options...

It`s just not our style, in the past...

Why change, now? He`s not that much better than other available options...

We have passed on a LOT of available "big name" free agent signings in the past.
    Why him?Why Now?..

I don`t like it, and never will, just because of what he chose to do...

We Knew his "character", before we signed him, But, we did it anyway...

    I just can`t understand it...
I would rather have Tebow, or a UDFA!!!!

    GO STEELERS!

Can't we all just have our own reasons we root for the greatest football team of all times and not judge the others about it? If you don't like some things the Steelers do, that's fine, but let's not have in-house fighting over how others regard it.

So the OP was dumb enough to admit on social media that he smokes pot daily while maintaining. (Recreational pot isn't legal in CA) Nothing on the internet ever goes away. Ask any of the people who have been fired recently for what they've posted. Even having nothing to do with what they do for a living.
"The Steeler way" is supposed to be about NOT signing a known bad guy. If they turn out bad later, (cough.....Bam...) then they can be dealt with. If the OP isn't too high, maybe this will help.
You work for McMann and Tate. Your clients keep coming back to your firm because of your work ethic and code of conduct that keeps all employees clean. Your clients love the McMann and Tate way! Then one day, the boss hires a known felon. Are your loyal clients "old" for not wanting to do business with a known felon? Should they just get over it because you can "maintain" while high?
THC stays in your system much longer than alchohol BTW.

Yep, Social media and stupidy will get you every time. After I retired from the Marines I taught College for 9 years. I taught Microsoft Office. The final was do a powerpoint on yourself. I had a class of Navy Dental Techs. One put a picture of herself with her face in a bowl of food. Captioned this is me drunk off my azz last night. She was up for promotion. She also decided Her Chief might like to see what she was doing in school and she sent the powerpoint to him in an email attachment. Said tech was snached from school. Recommendation for promotion withdrawn, and reenlistment denied. Last I heard she was out of the Navy
