Really its mainly Slot WR that is a need. We don't want to have to rely on Austin and Sims holding it down. We can either sign a Jarvis Landry type or go into the draft in search of another slot. Jaxon Smith-Njigba would be a great option at 32 if we want to go that route. I'm sure there are other guys that could fit the bill later too. I'd prefer we just stick to FA for a "handcuff" to Austin not performing. Someone like Landry, JuJu, or Paris Campbell would be great options.

Pass on Landry, he's on the wrong side of 30 and can't stay healthy.

There are only so many footballs to go around DJ, Pickens, Friermuth, Najee they all want the ball.
I would be very surprised if the 3rd receiver gets more than 50 targets.

I tend to agree. He would have to be something special, or We have a injury to someone else.

Going to bring this back because Addison had a pretty blah Combine. Not big, not fast, not explosive.

Instead of 17, what if he falls to 33? Does he then become an option?

Nope. Way too many other needs (OL, DL, ILB, CB) to draft a receiver with a premium pick. And as I mentioned on another thread, I could see that stunting the Pickett-Pickens relationship which I look forward to watching evolve over the next few years. Not saying we shouldn’t draft a receiver, but no earlier than the 4th round IMO and Addison will be long gone by then.

Why would we draft Addison? I wouldn’t even take him at 32. We are not the Bengals. Pickett is not Burrow and Addison is not Chase. We have way too many other holes to fill to even consider taking Addison. Plus we have a guy waiting in Calvin Austin who could be something special. I think you ride with Austin and Sims for the time being and fill out other areas of importance.

No. We drafted a guy like that last year and better, faster.

If WR is a target with the 32nd pick, I'd look at Jalin Hyatt before Addison. But a lot of mocks have him in the late 20's. Hyatt is fast and gets open. Once he has the ball, he's shifty and hard to bring down. 4.4 and 40" vertical and 11'3" broad jump. Kid is athletic and he's motivated. Not to mention the 5 TDs he had against Bama was epic. Ok, I'm biased but he would be day-1 WR2 ahead of anyone else on the roster behind Pickens at WR1.

That said, I want OT, C, or ILB in that order in the first round.

Diontae would still be WR #1 or WR #2 on the Steelers even if they draft Hyatt, with his salary and ability to get open he will get his targets.

If Jaxon Smith-Njigba was there and they took him #32, I would be okay with it, that's good value.

It would be for a team that needs a receiver. But the only way the Steelers should take a receiver at no. 32 is if there’s no offensive or defensive linemen, ILBs or CBs worth drafting here and I doubt that will be the case. I don’t think we can afford to simply go BPA at this spot. We’ve GOT to build the trenches and find some guys who can shut down the Ravens run game and the Bengals pass game. I think we’re okay at the skill positions and just need to develop what we have.

You also need weapons on offense to score a lot of points like the Chiefs, Bills, and Bengals.

If he's available at 32, then no receivers were taken in the first round. Considering the last 4 years 6.75 receivers have been taken in the first round (3 years with 7, one year with 6 [that year 33 and 34 were receivers]), that's highly unlikely. But I agree, that would be exceptional value.

I think Quentin Johnson will be the first receiver taken in the first round, then Smith-Njigba and Addison.

While I don't see seven first round worthy wr's this year. But it's a prime position, and people will reach because it's better than paying $20 million for a true #1 on the market.

I'm not big on getting Addison in any pick above #49. When I compare him to Tyler Boyd, I see pretty much the same player. Addison is better in some regards and Boyd is better than others. I'd say the biggest difference between the two is that Boyd is an inch taller and 30lbs heavier. Boyd had similar accolades in college and ended up being the 55th player drafted. I really don't see Addison being a full round better. I like Addison a lot. If he's around at 49, I'm running to the podium to announce Addison to the Steelers. But the reality is, we could find a WR that brings the same thing to the table that Addison does in the 4th or even 5th round. Steelers draft history, the past 20-25 years, has already proven this.

I'm not really interested in taking a WR early, but I posted earlier that if JSN was there at #32 then he should be considered, from day one he could be your starting slot WR.

I don't think you even consider it unless he drops to you with your second pick in the 2nd round.

Dionte is getting the money and he's starting to have a rapport with Kenny and you have Pickens, that is really starting to click with him as well. You grab Addison and you're looking at taking snaps from Dionte and throwing in an old friend into the mix when you're trying to see what you have in Austin.

Granted you want to have more talent in the room, but you really have to work and fit the personalities too.

I expect a DE or a OT in the first and that first pick of the second to be the same. I really think they get some picks for that #32 slot and move back. They should pick up at least an extra 4th and 6-7th this year for it. Depending how the board has swung, maybe even more because it's essentially a first round selection.
