It started in the 2009 season. November and December of that year, Steelers managed to lose to the Chiefs (not a good team then), Raiders, Browns and got swept by the Bengals. And this with most of the 2008 Super Bowl team intact.

Steelers were 6-2 at one point in 2009. They ended up 9-7. The only bright spot in the 2nd half of the season was the last minute victory over the Rodgers-led Packers. Mike Wallace catch at the end was a thing of beauty.

Depends if you're thinking as a fan or a team/player. As a team/player, you can't control what will happen next week. You play the game in front of you. You concern yourself with the next opponent and yourself. Your record, the standings, the phase of the moon, they are all irrelevant. You don't get extra time-outs or better field position for being undefeated. You also don't play better by looking ahead 6 weeks.

It started the year they went to the Super Bowl?

Now I don't feel as bad. It took me almost a decade to crack. During that time Steelers were the greatest thing ever and it was never their fault. Maybe still partially true with the cheating ass Patriots. But I can't take it anymore. Enough is enough. The letdowns and cliches. I just can't be Optimus Optimistic anymore. Smile and pretend next year is the year especially when I've been seeing the same mistakes for a decade.

You get into the playoffs because of your record, so your record isn't insignificant :facepalm:.

IDK, would be nice to know. I cannot remember but Cowhers record was insane with that lead and the Bus running 100 yards. Different era of football, but still something when the O can stay on the field and kill that clock.

I'll put Ben in that category. When Ben is on his game he can matchup with anybody. In a playoff setting, with the season on the line, I think Ben would do fine. It's some of the other guys that worry me. Fumbles by JuJu, Conner, and Snell can not happen.

2nd worst. worst was afc central, mid 80's, at 3-13. No conference has won fewer than 4 games since the 8 division realignment.

I went to that Packers game. Bittersweet because even with the win the Steelers were all but 'mathematically' eliminated from the playoffs due to losing to the Browns the week before.

It was the season in between the super bowl appearances. The "Unleash Hell In December" campaign.

Just last year nobody had a chance against that Lamar kid until the nobody did...lol

Last matchup against Mahommes the Steelers lost 42-37, something like that. Go ahead & crown your AFC champ, that usually works out well...lol

All I could find is that he was 52-1 as
of Oct. 2015. Too lazy right now to set up my conspiracy headquarters.

The Eagles aren't just hurting at wide receiver. Their offensive line has been hit hard by injury. They will be without at least three starters against the Steelers. Pittsburgh has to take advantage.

The Eagles do have an excellent defensive line that could give the Steelers' offense a lot of trouble.

There are only gimme games on paper. The whole nation thought the 9ers would walk on the Eagles even with their backup QB and other injuries in tow. You actually have to show up hands tied or not and go get it. On paper, the Eagles might as well have forfeited. If The Steelers go in thinking its a breeze, they might just get upset themselves. Take no games off! Everytime we or the media start drawing up injury issues that undoubtedly should be exposed this (as well as other teams) buck the supposed known narrative. I can't recall how many backup QBs have a career day against our squad or how many depleted lineman should lead to a sack fest for our squad and nary a QB gets whiffed on. Show up shut up and smash... That's it.

I mean I dont think people will be "satisfied" with us until we beat a "good" team. The Browns won, but the Cowboys are awful. They did play one "good" team and got beat by 31 in Baltimore.... so I would lean towards pretender status until they beat a "good" team too. I mean, we cant control who we play and there are no such thing as style points in the NFL. I really think the Cleveland-Tennessee-Baltimore stretch of games will tell us all we need to know about our team 2-1 or 3-0 and you have to feel great about our chances. 1-2 or 0-3 and we are likely just a team that will have to fight tooth and nail to the end of the season to try to get the last playoff spot (with some help from an easy schedule). All we can do is look for improvement from our team on a week to week basis. No reason to get too excited for a great start or too down on a mediocre one. 16 game season plus playoffs, so its all about peaking at the right time.

Id love to have our defense work out some of the early season kinks in the secondary and see some continued growth from the offense. Lots of young guys with big roles on this team, so momentum will be huge.

TBH I don't start getting hopeful until they get to 9 wins. This damn team went from 1-4 to 8-5 and still missed the damn playoffs at one point it was one win and almost guaranteed they get in

    Hey Roonatic.

Absolutely to everything you stated. Absolutely! The last few years or so we have fared well against the Chiefs. That is when we had AB, Bell, Bryant, and some others. I do not know if we ever played Mahomes. Either way, I am very curious as to how we currently would match up with them. I think for some here, they would be pleasantly surprised. For me, not surprised at all. I think we would definitely hold our own. We have a fast Defense, a very fast Defense. Swarming! We are constantly in the opposition's backfield. Wow! I would like to see us play them in the Regular Season. I think it is possible we could be on a collision course with them come January. That is if the season makes it that far.

Trust me, I am not getting ahead of myself here. It is just conversation. I am focused on the next game for right now. New England played K.C. tough last night. N.E. actually played uncharacteristically undisciplined on several key plays/situations. Otherwise, the game is much closer and maybe has a different outcome. I expected nothing less from Belicheat. Like him, or not, the man knows how to game plan. He does not go down without a fight in a loss.

Wrapping this up, I have stated several times over the summer, that like you, I believe we have the personnel to win it all. Again though, this is highly contingent upon Ben. It is a night and day difference with him in there. Last season's memories of our anemic Offense should still reside fresh in everyone's mind here to realize what a difference-maker he is. One of the things that I am most optimistic about is that so far our team has a scoring average of about twenty-seven points/game through the first three contests. This, with a re-finding himself Ben. I optimistically say wait until he "recalibrates". Gets fully reacquainted with those "O" players that he has worked with before and familiarizes himself with the new "rising stars" on this Offense that he never worked with before this season. Very promising IMO.
