It’s kind of funny to see some of the people advocating for this are the same that complain about “natural position”.

AV was a college tight end that Philly tried to switch to d-line. He tried out with us at d-line what’s his name said he was too slow off the ball. Munchak said let’s see what we can do

Took a year for AV. Cut by Philly in Aug 2014, Steelers signed him and switched him to the Oline. 2015 he took over for Beachum in October and never looked back.

actually he was recruited as a TE to army, but was tried and played as a d-lineman, left tackle and then a WR during his time with army.

adams and beachum both were injured. he had played LT in college. he had to learn and gain weight here before that. if it wasn't for injury he probably would have never got the shot 15 months later.

quite different from taking a starting TE from that role and switching him to a starting tackle. we don't even know that he would be the starting tackle. they also though mike adams was going to be a good starter at that time.

There is more to it than just getting him bigger. Some guys have made the adjustment well, but how many managed it at the pro level? The only one I can name is Larry Brown, who made the move for the Steelers in the '70s. Andy Heck did it at Notre Dame and became a first-round pick and a solid pro. I'm sure there are a few others, but I'm not sure it would be as easy a transition as you make it out to be.

Just because he had comparable size and speed to Gronkowski doesn't mean he has that sort of potential as a receiver. He doesn't run routes like Gronkowski. He doesn't consistently make tough catches like Gronkowski. He doesn't seem to have that same level of quickness on the field, either. The Gronkowski comparisons were always an oversimplification of what it means to be a successful receiver.

Gronkowski showed some potential as a receiver in college. He caught 45 passes, including 10 touchdown receptions, as a sophomore at Arizona. Washington caught 45 passes for three touchdowns in three seasons at Georgia.

Jason Peters played TE in college then became an OL in the NFL.

Guys on here trying to say Mt Washington could be a Gronk in the right system. Mother of God :lolol::lolol::lolol:

In 2 years with the Steelers he has 26 catches for 261 yards and 1 TD. I know the Steelers offensive philosophy is trash but wow.

Per Spotrac there are 19 tackles and zero TEs with an average contract value of $20 million or more. T is certainly a more lucrative position for the player, if the player can truly play it at a high level.

There’s only reason I’m against the idea it is because in this instance it’s foolish imo. I saw that dip**** claimed people were comparing him to gronk. Thats not the case. Simply that having a couple or in this instance 3 tight ends that can be weapons in the passing game is something to be excited about.
