If Justin Gilbert and Mike Evans are gone I would trade it and maybe we can get a 3rd pick that we currently don't have. I have a feeling Detroit will draft one of these guys at #10.

You know it seems like every time I turn around this team gets someone I NEVER thought we could end up with in the draft. At this time last year, Jones was a projected top 5 pick and in some cases as high as 2nd overall in some mocks. DeCastro was predicted to go in the top 15. Pouncey same thing. I think you can look at most mocks right now and pick 2 guys who are in the late teens and 20s and they will go in the top 10 because someone will fall in love with them. It happened with Poe. It happened with Ansah. It will happen to someone this year as well.

I think we will end up with someone NO ONE expects to be available when we pick, yet is a perfect fit for our needs.

I know there are a lot of people who don't think we need a WR, but if Sanders and Cotchery both don't get signed we are NOT going into the year with Wheaton, Moye, and J. Brown as part of our top 4 guys...we just aren't.

if possible i would trade down a couple of times to add a couple of 3rd rounders then i would trade one of them plus a fourth for another second . at the end we could have a late first two second and two late 3rd and not a 4th

It completely depends on who's there when we're on the clock..

You can't go into a draft thinking we should trade down before you know who's available at your pick IMO..

True. It would be kind of hard to find a trade partner unless that team also knew the guy they wanted was available. I just hope they are open to the idea at least. SF would make the perfect trading partner. Tons of picks, that they will never sign and maybe that one special player away from getting over the hump. They have 12 picks......

My point is if most of the top players are gone when the Steelers pick then they should think about trading down, I don't want to stay at #15 and draft somebody like Louis Nix ugh.

It definitely depends on who's still on the board. I agree that we do seem to have "that guy" fall to us...at least in recent drafts. It's hard to see who that guy could be this year, though.

Assuming that player x, y, and z, are already gone, then- yes. A thousand times yes.

This is why I think it is important to do the "can't pass over thread" I started earlier. When you couple that list with the QBs which will be taken when they shouldn't be, and you can see what we are going to have the shot at. Who are the top 10 guys in the draft regardless of position? How many additional QBs will be taken? Who is left? I think when you look at this draft you will see a lot of people say "Player XYZ won't be there when we draft", but I think the reality is there probably will be someone we WANT there for our taking.

Of course...if a player they want isn't there...or they have a number of guys they want still there (versus how far they are moving down) they could easily do it...and pick up a few more picks. Won't know until they're on the clock though!

clowney watkins matthews mack barr and robinson are the only 6 players in my A group , then add bridgewater manziel bortles , the only qb that can go in the top 15 , we are at 9 , then start all the others

That is a good list. The players I see in the next group WE could potentially pick:

    Evans
    Lee
    Gilbert
    Clinton-Dix
    CJ Mosely
    Ebron

Others who are in that same block of players for me who I don't think we will pick:

    Donald
    Jernigan
Lewan - who I think will eventually slide maybe even out of the first round unless he has a great combine
    Hageman

I just looked at this again and realized that gets us to 15, our pick. I think you did a great job of picking the top 9 guys Freak, who are your players 10-20 and are there any that you would def. not pass over for us at 15 if they were there.

Its complicated and depends on who we want and what we'll get by trading back. I for one would like us to stay put and draft either Gilbert,Dennard or Roby. Of course if things are working out right and the right trading partner shows up then I can see a move backward.

Here are a couple scenarios with a couple different teams using the trade chart point system.
#1---- Trade with chargers who are at # 25. We switch 1st rounders Plus we get either their 2nd rd pick OR we get their 3rd this year and next years 3rd rd pick.

#2----- Trade with Ari Cards who are at # 20.... we switch 1st round picks plus we get their 3rd rd pick & 5th Rd pick.

With the depth of this draft we should get better staying put and getting the top player in our top need or even trading back and acquiring extra top picks in hopes of building a younger talented roster.

Yeah, some team will love Ealy or Tuitt possibly. Maybe Hou,Jax,Cle, and Min all take QB's (meaning Carr goes top 10 as well). Somebody might think Dennard is a better CB than Gilbert, or Pryor is a better FS than Dix and take them too. So many variables. Honestly there could be 3-4 guys from that list who would be available. If one from the group of Gilbert, Dix, Evans, or Lee was there... that's probably going to be our pick IMO. I still think the Steelers have an outside chance of going Ebron too, but if one of the aforementioned players were there I'd bet they go with them instead of Ebron.
