Interesting but I usually go during halftime rather than on 4th down. ;)

In what situation are we talking about? 4th and a half yard at your own 25 is a at least a field goal if you don't make it. Same if you are at their 30 and give points for a 4th and a yard. Analytics is the new wonder tech makes teams all kinds of stupid

I think a lot of it would depend who your playing.
If your playing KC, Buffalo, Philly, Cincy, I'd be more aggressive. FG's won't let you beat those guys.

I think if your at the OPP 42-35 Yard line and your facing 4th an 1 or 2. I go for it.

Now prime example the Raiders game here. Tomlin went for a 53 yard FG against the Raiders think it was a 4th and 5.

I would of went for it on 4th down in that situation and not kicked it.

The weather was cold, Boswell hammy (how good is it). I don't think I want to attempt a FG in that stadium in that weather unless its 45 yards or less.

Bos had the distance but hit it left and missed. I would of liked to see him go for it there in that situation.

But Tomlin has faith in Boswell. But I rather get closer or continue toward a TD possibility.

If your gonna be aggressive on 4th down you better have a great defense to bail you out if your not successful.

I couldn't believe we didn't go for it in that situation. Boswell had no chance of making that kick in windy, below freezing conditions. It cost us too because the miss gave the Ravens good field position and they got a couple of first down and kicked a FG of their own. It was a 6 point turn around in a game we lost by 2 points.

I like the double reverse jet sweep on 4th and 1 myself.

Actually the old Ben 4th and 1 50 yard bomb that he completed 2% of the time was also good.

Now imagine that same style with Pickens on the team.

With Pickens it might be up to 6%

And looking at those bottom 6 teams; there were 3 teams that had a Conversion percentage higher than 50%: Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and Buffalo. Not bad company for the Steelers offense to be in.

I looked thru the numbers since 2017, the Steelers were in the bottom half of 4th down attempts every yr. Usually worse than 20th. I was a bit surprised, because my memory was that this team was aggressive on 4th down with Ben. But apparently not so much in last 4 yrs.

I think we are dealing with an antilytic person here, the Steelers do employ such a person.

That's the thing that frustrates me about Tomlin. He always says things like he won't let the opponent dictate what he does, he won't blink, he won't change his coaching style, etc. But its all such a load of BS. He's all over the place. Sometimes he's very aggressive, then he's extremely conservative and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

He was very conservative this year. I really hope he opens things up a bit next year or we're going to be mediocre again. You can only grind out so many wins. You can't rely on your QB for those 4th quarter game winning drives every week. You can't rely on your defence to shut teams down every year. Sometimes you need to score points quickly.

    4th and 3.

Steelers line up in an obvious run formation.

(insert jet sweep pre snap motion)

Pickett pitches the ball back 4 yards to Najee.

He gets tackled behind the LOS.

In the post game interview Tomlin says he refuses to live in his fears and will revaluate after watching the tape.

I think if we are to be successful Tomlin has very little choice. He has to get more aggressive and more confident in those he surrounds himself with. Not sure about Coach T I kind of go back and fourth about his employment. The only reason he has been conservative at least in my eyes is because he has a very young offense included but not limited to a new cube ( thats what Tomlin calls his QB). We are seeing the results of a team that is sub par but can rise to the occasion when called upon and seemingly in trouble of getting that 500 season that people brag about. Next year I seriously hope we start out strong with a team that can last more then one game in the playoffs.

I hate this it was cold narrative. Quarterbacks are still expected to throw the ball, wide receivers to catch etc etc etc, but kickers get a pass because it was cold
