I'm still holding out hope that with a change in his position coach, his athletic ability might be put to better use.

Too bad he can't produce positive results which is the whole idea. Knowing the system is only half of the job.

They should have hired an edge rush coach. A guy that has simply one job to work on the edge rushers ability to beat tackles on the edge.

Even if that's a martial arts expert.

Bud has long arms, he's strong, he's one of the fastest players off the snap, he has good linear speed, he's big.

He does not use his hands well to disengage block ..<< CAN BE IMPROVED

He does not bend at the hips well to turn the edge << CAN'T REALLY BE IMPROVED. << he's tall and doesn't bend naturally like others like James Harrison.

People are hard on Bud because he was a 1st round pick and brought in with intentions of being a pass rusher. The reality is, he's done everything else about above average EXCEPT rush the passer.

I like Bud at what they're paying Chickillo right now tbh. He's a solid player, but unexceptional on the edge rush. Better have him coming up the middle.

Bud doesn’t have long arms. That was his one physical measurement at the combine that wasn’t up to par. I also think it’s kind to say that he does everything besides the edge rush above average. His run defense is also subpar for a starting NFL edge. He’s improved dropping into zone coverage, so I guess there’s that.

Whatever bud is or isn't, could be or should be, let's hope that Butler can contribute by going back to what he excelled at a few years ago.

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner! For the life of me they just threw 9.2 out the window for this mistake. When I saw this thread I was ecstatic! Please PLEASE Detroit you want the great Dud who will have a sack laden fest this season. You heard it here! Common! I would take a 4th or 5th. Or 6th. You ain't gettin a 3rd for him :lolol: 9.2 off the books and saying bye bye to a below average player. Common!

Ok I stand corrected on long arms.

A quick glimpse at other pass rushers.

    32 5/8 Bud Dupree

    35 1/4 Myles Garrett

    34 Bradley Chubb

    33" Nick Bosa

So yeah he doesn't have long arms in comparison, which could be impacting his ability to disengage blockers.

I disagree with your assessment of his run support. Bud is a fairly disciplined player in his gaps, and he's a big OLB that takes on blockers fairly well.

It would be interesting to see how he'd do in a position change to inside linebacker. He has good sideline to sideline speed. He's been in the system for a while and should know the lingo.

    Yeah I think they've committed.

The only way to reduce the cap hit now would be a trade, which I wouldn't be entirely against, but I do not see Chickillo as a valid starter on this team at OLB. They did pay him decent so I wonder if they have other plans.

And then there is Adenyi #92. They need to get these young guys some playing time against opposing starters to see how they do.

I'm still a little sore that they lost Matt Thomas to of all teams the Ravens. I reconcile he must have been a complete dud.

I think Thomas had the physical tools, maybe the mental part not so much.

No its based on their targeted bull poop and to rouse the base to gather torches and pitchforks.

Bud's defense against the run is sub-par and not very good. He dosen't like to mix it up and dose not play tough against the run even with his size and athletic ability. Teams run way more often to his side then the other because they know his weakness.

Wrong he uses his size and strength to his advantage playing disciplined in his gaps and is an above average to good defensive run stopper. Every now and then he gets beat, but overall maintains his assignment consistently.

So I guess we'll have to just agree to disagree unless you want to start posting videos and I can show you how you're wrong.

Sorry but being 13th on the team with 42 tackles tells a far different story from the one you're telling....
They even switched sides for him and gave him much more of a chance to freelance and those were still his numbers. People hanging on to the thread that he is serviceable need to let go. As far as your previous comments about hiring a outside pass rush specialist. He has spent the last few seasons with a couple of them. Chuck Smith and attended Von Millers camp....been there done that....still stinks.

Okay your wrong, and it's not even close. Bud played a lot last year, but here is the list of players that had more tackles then him. He should be ashamed at this and we could do a lot better at that position for the 9 + million.

Sean Davis, Terrell Edmunds, Vince Williams, Jon Bostic, T J Watt, Joe Haden, Mike Hilton, Cameron Heyward, Javon Hargrove, L J Fort, Coty Sebsabaugh, Stephon Tuitt.

Come to think about it he is not only below average in run support, he stinks at it.

But but but if the QB would just drop back 10 more yards or the RB would just run the wrong way Dud would be the team leader........

If you're looking at stats, why not compare him with Tuitt or Hargraves?

Because tackles really don't mean much if you are talking about being a gap player.

Tackles are for those that are designed to be freed up to make the tackle.

His change to the blind side was because of his lack of ability to turn the corner. The QB would see him coming and simply step up into the pocket. They hoped to get more of a pass rush from the blind side, but we're not talking about pass rush.

    We're talking about run defense.

    Nope. You're wrong.

Bud's not worth 9 mill a year, but he's not as bad as everyone likes to portray him at every facet of the game. He is still a better player than Chickillo for example.

Unless you want to get down and dirty into breaking down film, this discussion will have to end in a agree to disagree.

But yeah you're wrong lol.. along with many others regarding the overall evaluation of Bud Dupree.
