Ryan Shazier says he's been cleared to practice and feels like he's ready to go. He said he got knocked out in Seattle, but remembers most of the game.

Good news. I hope he can stay healthy the rest of the year and show us some more of what he showed us in the SF game. We're going to need him down the stretch!

A healthy, fully-functional Shazier will make our defense a lot more effective. We need his explosive traits close to the LOS to take some of the pressure off of Heyward and our DB's.

They should use his speed to disguise coverages. Blitzing Hasselbeck will be near useless he gets rid of the ball on quick throws. So use that and dictate the hot read and use Shazier's speed to jump the route. Play tight man blitz Timmons and allow the TE to release or slot receiver to come inside and boom jump the throw. Back the safeties off and have them as help over the top and jam the WR's at the line and sucker Hasselbeck into throwing were we want.

My brother, who is NOT a Steelers fan by any stretch, asked me a couple of weeks ago, "who's that # 50? He always seem to be out of position"

As long as he breaks it off in Hasslebeck's eye.

Does really matter? At this point the odds are good he will be back on the trainers table by the 2nd quarter. Don't get me wrong I like him as a player, but he's perpetually injured.

So far... Shazier reminds me of Kendrell Bell in 2002. Flashes of brilliance, but a mostly frustrating season thanks to nagging injuries. Bell was never the same after that year. However, Kendrell Bell was brilliant in his rookie year... 2001. He and Casey Hampton turned the defense around... those two played a big role in laying the foundation for some of the best defenses of all time.

I hope he plays and manages to stay healthy.

However, if commentators were a bit more mean-spirited, I could hear them calling him Glass Joe. I know I would.

He is good in pursuit, but I definitely don't think he excels when they run right at him between the tackles.
