I just saw that the Bills released him. Any chance that the Steelers give him a look at OLB, given how injury depleted they are at the position. I know he is past his prime and injury prone but if he would sign at the veteran's minimum salary it could be a good pick up.

Nothin more painful than a busted hemorrhoid. Poor dude wouldn't be able to run...or sit on the bench.

I was wondering how long before this was posted. I heard when he signed with Buffalo how he looked so rejuvenated... the fact that they're cutting him tells me they were obviously wrong... and if I'm not mistaken they JUST switched to a 3-4 so they could definitely use someone like him.

No. Shawn Merriman had so much hype around him here in Buffalo. They put him on IR the year they signed him, last year. He has said he feels healthier than ever. he's coming back from an achilles' injury. They were even resting him and only going to have him play on third downs to rush the passer. He's done or would be very shortly if he were to sign in Pittsburgh.

Yeah I figured someone would post this. I just don't think he has anything left. I hate to say that because when he was good he was really good. But it's over.

I would not mind him on a one year deal vet MIN as a situational pass rusher.

Merriman might not be LIGHTS OUT anymore....but he is still Jason Worilds.

When I saw the news on the ticker last night, I said to myself "i bet someone will start a thread suggesting we pick him up.". Never fails

Just curious, what does the money or the length of the deal have to do with anything to you personally? The reason I ask is this is something you see posted about certain players alot. As fans what do we really care what the Steelers pay someone? Or why do we think we know more about what the Steelers should pay someone than say the Steelers do?

Its my opinion of what Merriman's worth at this time in his career. If there was an article that came out tomorrow that said the Steelers signed Merriman for a 10 year...200 million contract .....we would all be here wondering what the heck that was for....was it a good idea....did Colbet hit his head on something.....Yes we all LOVE the Steelers...but there is not one poster who would not be questioning the organization if that happened....this is the same thing. It is my opinion of Merriman that he is already getting some money from Buffalo....that he is not worth what he once was....but that there is still some worth to him....if the Steelers could sign him for vet min (plus what Buffalo already owes him) that he could "audition" for one year coming off the bench for both the Steelers or another team in 2013....He gets a shot at a championship...and a big payday if he can sniff his former self. The Steelers get a passrusher whose floor is about what the backups ceiling is. Again...just my opinions.

Merriman's floor is Worilds' ceiling? That's news to me.

Yep....that is my opinion...Worilds has shown me nothing that would change my mind to date.
