Shamarko ( headache ) Thomas was supposed to replace Troy. He was supposed to make W. Allen's roster spot unnecessary. Robert Golden was to be an afterthought.

I hate to call a mid rd pick a draft bust but we did trade up to get him so in reality he cost us two picks..

Our secondary stinks!!!! ( thank you captain obvious ) .. Partly due to scheme and partly due to player abilities. Shark is nothing but a STer and if not for his LOW salary he would be gone. Golden is now our best option moving forward but will he require more money than we want to spend.

Tomlin loves him some W. allen but honestly he needs to go. He's a heady guy capable of both safety spots but his skillset has declined too far. Why we aren't starting Golden over Allen is as puzzling as Blake still over Boykin.

And why didn't they coaches know Shark wasn't able to replace Troy before now. They've had him for several years and knew he wasn't above the neck capable yet he's still here. They knew allen was too old yet he's still starting. Was our safeties in camp THAT Bad?????

    rant over

Yeah they were that bad. Otherwise Shamarko would be the starter.

It all looks bad... Allen is 30+ he can't player much longer, Mike Mitchell has shown to be injury prone, he might not last either.

Safety MUST be a priority this offseason.

Draft one and see if you can land a FA for the other position. Or heck draft both positions and just live with the mistakes. They can't be any worse than what is currently happening in the secondary...

I don't know. The guys they cut showed some pop and a knack for getting the ball. They just needed to get the scheme down. I'm having a hard time believing that those hard workers were worse than Shark and Blake as far as knowing the scheme. I'm starting to believe that these coaches like the perigee over the mutt that has to fight for every snap and just might be better despite the lower expectations for the ceiling.

The most troubling thing is that even if we do draft a CB and a safety, there's no guarantee that they help as rookies. It may be another year of poor secondary play while we wait for them to be ready. We may have to look to free agency for help next season.

Yep. This is why Golsen's injury is so galling this year. Likewise, not getting Grant on the field. I've not given up on either of these guys yet, but it would be good to see them getting some experience.

We need and OLB and a safety.... those positions should be our #1 priority. Harrison is likely gone. We're getting no pressure from the OLB's now... that has to change for our defense to work.

Yep but Bill Clinton when ask why he didn't want a Keystone pipeline said what for? it will take 10 years before we see results. Now, Obamski said the same thing. Had Clinton done it. Results would have happened 8 years ago and gas would be even cheaper. Had we drafted safety's before we found out Troy was done and played them. We would be a lot better

I think this off season, Steelers will purge a lot of players (secondary/ OLB) from the existing
roster Land Shark being one of them. Apparently he can't handle the mental aspect of the game.
Had high hopes for him when drafted. We have to shore up the secondary and get people that can rush the passer.

we won't know if shamarko is ready until the coaches give him the chance.... we all know that the coaches are a little too loyal to certain players, otherwise Antwon blake would've been on the bench long ago and boykin would be the starter...... there's no telling if shamarko is ready or not, because many players don't get a fair chance to compete

I think it's more likely that had this happened they would have sat on the bench gathering dust, then signed somewhere else; meanwhile, there would be regular posts on here about how useless the draft pick was because they never saw the field, and have them labelled a bust.

Love the way you intertwined a political comment in with your Steelers secondary comment. :lolol:

I agree with both, BTW! :thumbs up:
