who knows how much time Troy has left, I think this guy will get turned into a Saftey... Receivers are getting bigger, TE's are being used more , we need more muscle back there..Spence should drop down to 220/ 225

Man I'm surprised everyone hates this pick so much. I wanted Lavonte David in the 2nd but I see Spence as a similar player. Spence had a shoulder injury at the combine that affected his bench.

Spence is instinctive, quick, and VERY tough for his size. Yes he's small but it was well known that Farrior played well below his listed 240 lbs. Spence is about 5'11 230. Spence will cover the Ray Rice and Trent Richardson's of the league very well for us. The league is going to a passing league so I see this as a good adjustment. It's not a prototypical fit, but he's a baller. I like it.

I'm extremely happy with this draft.

And he's not going to play safety "LB coach Keith Butler says Spence will be put behind Lawrence Timmons on depth chart."

It looks like he plays faster than he times after watching some tape. He does have a burst, takes pretty nice lines and looks to be pretty aggressive.

I don't know. Jury is still out on him. I don't like to judge guys on their measurables.

I like the player, he and Timmons are the same player though, which means Spence will probably never start here. We used a 3rd rounder on a dude who will never start here unless due to injury. Makes no sense?

Da Stellars, they're not the "same player." Even if they were, why could they not play next to one another?

Would you rather have 2 Timmons' or Timmons and Foote inside?

I wasnt happy at first but after watching some highlights dude has a nose for the football and goes hard. he is listed now at 231 which is about the same size as sly. give him a year behind timmons then slide timmons over and they could cover the entire field side to side. Dude is going to be huge on specials. those who dont like it go watch some video his play will change your mind. also hurricanes/steelers fans seem to love this pick so we will see.

i mentioned spence some a while back. butler went to miami to see him. the kid makes plays. great pick. smart and can wear the green dot. he doesn't get fooled easily and can run through the junk. good in coverage. i've liked miami for years and have seen alot of him. a bad shoulder hurt his bench reps.

Maybe Colbert and Tomlin are trying to light a fire under Timmons. He's underperformed for the most part.

Hey TheSteelHurtin2188, I went to see some video on Youtube, I like what I see, impressive stuff. Could be Ryan Clark's replacement. What do you think?

One guy to try and compare this pick to is London Fletcher? He's 5'10 and has been a solid ILB for the last 10 years?

Precisely. Not to mention that the Steelers are a pretty good evaluators of LB's. I'm happy with this draft so far.

They are the same player in the respect that they will play the mack, Farriors role.

I'd take 2 Timmons' because Timmons is big enough and strong enough to take on guards and fullbacks, as well as having the speed to cover. This is where Spence size becomes a negative, he needs a Buck next to him to let him roam free.

If Spence is tough enough to sacrifice his body and blow up blockers like Foote, and has the arm length to hold off guards, than he can challenge Sylvester and Foote for a starting spot, and play along Timmons. I'm really curious if he can and if his body will hold up to it.

I'm just thinking of small guys like Bob Sanders and Ernie Simms who have immense talent, but got injured a lot most likely due to their size and the poundings they took.

I'm just thinking along the lines of Lebeau's traditional 3-4. Maybe the Coaching staff is just saying "F-it" and just grabbing ILB's with speed who can cover down field to change with the times????

It's great we will have a really good back up behind Timmons. Don't get me wrong he looks like a good player. Its just surprising they didn't go after someone actually had a better chance to start in a year or two. He is not going to play while Timmons is here as the starter, we spent a 3rd round pick on a special teamer????

I honestly think he is here to play ilb. 9 pounds puts him at 240 which is a good sized lber. The pick is growing on me more and more. I actually am one of the few who like mundy and think he has done a good job when called upon. He had a pick in one game when he played mos of it and caused two fumbles against the broncos. I'm partial to local kids thoug so take it fr what it is worth.

Exactly. Take the Steelers word about LB above all internet scouts.

Except if we are talking about kickers, then listen to the internet scouts.

Thats who I was trying to think of earlier. Also Timmons is only 6'1 / 234lb, Sly: 6'2" / 231lb, Foote: 6'1" / 239lb, Farrior 6'2" / 243lb.....you're only talking 1 5/8" - 2 5/8" difference in size....and the weight not to far off. I just hope he's able to contribute enough to be worth the 3rd round pick! And I think he will...if he cans like he did in college.

I would have taken-"IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO YOU WOULD HAVE TAKEN!".

Throw some rasslin' verbage in here.

On the NFL network they said he played at 218, and bulked UP to 231 for the combine.
So, don't know how much bigger he can really get.

Wouldn't 5'11", 220 put him slightly bigger than Troy's size?
A 4.7+ forty does seem a bit slow for a safety, though.

I was a bit baffled by this pick, but a 'football player' over a 'measurables player' usually works out.
We'll have a good idea, in about 4 months.

Lots of very good LB past and present... Fletcher who was already mentioned, Zach Thomas , Singeltary I live out here in Broncos land and Im taller than 2 of their LBs, Joe Mays and Wesley Woodyard are definately under 6'- and they balled last year

If they guy bulked up for combine 13 lbs, that slowed his running down and why he ran average at the combine. The guy on the highlights is the fastest dude on the field. Pretty impressed by his reactions- he doesnt chase, he beats you to where you are heading. Personaly I believe the bigger they are the harder they hit you. But Steelers track record with LB's gives them a pass. Even if he bust, not like the Steelers ever are sub par at the position.

Plays fast and aggressive for the ball. He's a gamer and quick, not fast, there's a difference and he comes down on the right side of speed. He's got the grit but will need it where he lacks size and outright speed. Every pick is a gamble, so be it, but let's hope he pans out better than one of their more recent 3rd rounders.

I didn't like the pick last night, and I still don't like it this morning.

Most scout saw this guy as a 4-3 WLB only. I really think we forced a NEED pick here, but I just don't even see this guy starting anytime soon.

I guess this is a passing league and you need guys that can turn and run with RBs and TEs. not my kind of Steelers LB though.
