oh, looks more like a DB.

I can bench 225 more than him! 12 reps- for real?

Definitely a curve ball. There's got to be a good reason for this right?... right?

The Steelers have needed an undersized, underpowered linebacker with mediocre speed for a long time.

Only thing is he can add weight to move up to 235 and play around the same weight as Farrior and Foote. But definitely a curve ball. I would have took James Michael-Johnson.

We have that already in Larry Foote! Spence could be a safety? Gotta believe there is a hidden agenda with this kid? He could bulk up for sure and played in a good system that makes players. Spence had over 100 tackles with 14 TFL last year and was ACC rookie of the year in 2008.

Wasted pick here, would have preferred big snack's replacement, Alameda Ta'amu from Washington. That would have been a good second day. I don't get the Spence pick either. Not only is he small, but he plays outside. Maybe they want to push him inside to replace Foote, just saying.

Mayock's take: "One of my favorite football players on tape. He's one of the more instinctive linebackers in this draft. In the 3-4 scheme in Pittsburgh, he's going to have to play outside or that Will linebacker inside. Either way, I don't care, because I really like the way he plays."

I was expecting Ta'amu, myself. Spence seems to be at his best when undersized runners are heading to the sideline where he doesn't have to take them head on. I hope he proves me wrong, but I think we would have been better off shoring up the NT position.

The Steelers have ten picks this year, would it kill them to trade a couple and move back into the third round? They should really try and get Alameda Ta'amu. They're going to have a slew of undrafted invitees to camp anyway.

I don't think undersized has anything to do with it, Troy P is 5' 10", should we have passed on him? Looking at Spences highlights he has a good nose for the ball and looks really fast on tape, who cares what he was timed.

The thing I don't get is he doesn't seem like a Buck/Kirkland type LB. And Butler said Sylvester is the future Buck.

That means we spent a 3rd rounder on Timmons future back up??? That certainly doesn't make sense? Normally you want a future starter with your 3rd pick???

    I dont see it....guy is a marginal 4-3 OLB....not a good fit at 3-4 inside....he can't get off a block inside...

Oh well...hopefully I am proven wrong.

Spence was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award but he reminds me of Macho Harris, too small for one position and too slow for the other. I can see him in a LB/S 'tweener' role on passing downs and possibly a special teams demon which isn't too bad for a 3rd rounder I guess.

I'm confused too, you need to keep him clean to roam, so if he was a future starter that would mean they would keep Timmons as the Buck and Spence as the Mack. I don't see it happening though? This smells like a full time back up at best due to the log jam of players. He does seem to have talent, but the system must be right.

Well Huey Richardson did leave quite a legacy and it takes a while to fill shoes like that.
