I said it once and I would say it again...I would've switch Spence to safety and cut W. Allen and kept chick this year...or kept Soto and hojo last year.

    why cut Allen?
He's the only one that's proven he can play.
move someone to a new position and keep an unproven player and get rid of a viable vet?

    all I can say

    WELCOME TO PITTSBURGH Mr.DARIAN THOMPSON
    and Vernon Hargreaves

Spence is too slow to play safety and he doesn't cover well as it is.

I have never understood why so many fans just assume that a LB could switch to a DB and be successful. They are not even close to the same thing. You don't think teams would run go routes at him all day long with WR's that run 4.3? QB's would victimize him at will just by doing that alone. It's a complete different animal being the last line of defense back there as opposed to only being responsible for short passes over the middle or in the flat. It would make more sense to take a big safety and try to convert him to LB as opposed to the other way around.

The only LBer that could have would have been Shazier but since he put on 10 pounds instead of losing ten pounds that's not going to happen either.

I don't think Spence has ever played safety in his life, and position changes of this type rarely happen in the NFL. I remember there was speculation by a couple bloggers that he'd be a good candidate for position change when he was drafted, but there's almost always one or two players that get that kind of attention. I'm not really sure why, though.

I still say the Team should experiment with DHB at Safety. He would bring more size and speed to the position. He should understand routes and passing trees very well . He hits pretty well we have seen that on his ST'S play.

Not a bit , lots of Teams have WR conversions . He has all the tools and could not be any worse than Shamarko . I would say over half the DB'S you watch play started out as WR'S .

I don't recall lots of teams that have WR that convert to DB's at the pro level. Especially, after being in the league for several seasons. Do you care to refresh my memory?

It's easy enough to make the switch at the high school or college level. It's much more difficult to make the switch at the professional level. Especially considering that DHB been a WR all his professional career.

He's not joking. It don't matter though cause me, you and everyone else on this planet knows that it's not going to happen.
Nothing wrong with dreaming I guess.

If Cortez Allen finds his game, Brandon Boykin could switch to the safety position.

Short of magically finding enough money to sign Kam Chancellor and trading for him, we're stuck with what we've got at the safety position. I would expect a first or second round pick at the position. Immediate starters needed.

Spence came out of Miami as a ball hawking speedster. With the knee injury....he may have lost a step but that put him in the same speed level as most safeties. Will Allen is experienced but knowing where the ball is going and can't get there in time is still a liability

He wasn't nearly that fast. He had good speed for a LB, but he wasn't exceptionally fast for LB, especially for one his size. He was never fast/quick enough to play SS, and after the knee injury and added weight, he sure as heck ain't. I'm surprised that he made the team.

btw at the combine Spence ran a 4.71 forty.

Hey, I'd be all for it haha it would fix a lot of issues in one could swoop. Probably costs us Beachum if it happens tho. Possibly AB or Bryant in the future too.
