We used to have one of the best in the league. Those guys use to find great diamonds in the ruff. Now, only duds. And, no one is holding these guys accountable.

i said this a few years ago that the scouting department has changed. old timers dies or retired and it would make a difference. i won't go as far as all duds but a few drafts show when that change was happening. now there is more involved then just the scouts. colbert and tomlin have to trust who the scouts are pushing and with the change it seems like the trust has to grow from the trust they had with the previous scouting team.

Come on. Technology has completely changed scouting over the years from sending out a couple of undercover insiders to various colleges with a notepad and pen to having youtube videos on players from the time they graduate from diaper training. There are no secrets anymore on player talent achievements. It's more of a maturity check and potential NFL development evaluation. The combine has become nothing more than a psychology test more than a talent competition.

you can sit just on this site and find 50 differing opinions on the same player. with all the technology available it still comes down to fit, brains, brawn, mobility, dedication as well as talent. that all has to do with where they did it and who was around them that made them maybe seem better then they would be in a totally different setting. it's not as cut and dry as you think. many variables come into the scouting process. there are a lot of hands in it as well.

Always 1 huge unknown with all the tools they have to measure physical and mental abilities you just can't measure Heart...Each level you move up the more dedicated you have to be. Some super Athletes never pan out because they are not willing to put in the extra effort some players make it in the NFL , but never excel because of the same thing and others become great as they eat, sleep and breathe all that is Football and do everything they can do to get better..

Is this a joke? You can't be serious. If you are, might be one of the more ridiculous threads on this board. I'll give you corners... we struggle to draft corners but then again so does most everyone else. If you're not using a round 1 pick on a corner or safety it seems like they're rare these days. I'm guessing the ridiculous rules may have something to do with that also.

i've talked about this before on here. i want hungry players. i want guys that want to get better and work on their games to show they belong. i'm hoping some of these no name (as many call them) guys finally get their time to shine. we have seen in the past that it's all they need. just a shot to show they can play. they have been biding their time sometimes behind starters for years until an injury happens and they get to play. well we have some positions that are not injury related but wide open competition that can give them a shot. i'm kind of excited to see what some of them can do. everybody at this level are pretty good. people call them scrubs but even making it to this level as a practice squad player is something many people can't do. these are still the best of the best.

Are you referring to scouting players for the draft or these recent signings of FA's? If its the draft, damn. If its FA's, then I look at what/who we are signing to someone going on to a car lot with a bag of pennies. You get what you can afford. I don't know how to interpret what the OP is about, specifically.

The talent has been there. I'm not going to get into the reasons why we haven't had success as of late. Main point is Defva flat ass wrong as usual.

The one thing I would question the organization on is, Their lack of preparedness for the declining OL...They let lt slowly descend into total suckiness...One could question the continual lack of higher picks being used on said OL...Has now put us into the current state of being " the worst rushing attack in the NFL "

And you know what's in the scouting reports and that Colbert is taking in the draft the guys that the scouts said are great and ended up a bust?

Thats what makes this year an even bigger challenge. Some schools limited play (so limited video), teams limited to zoom calls. You really cannot get much from this, do you send the kid some plays and then ask for his knowledge during the call? He could get coached up for the response, yet be dumb as nails in a game situation, lol. That example is extreme, but highlights the reality in this years draft..a crap shoot with blinders on.

it all relates to money. Franchise qbs cost money. DL cost money. If you spend a lot in a few areas you have to pinch pennies in others.

Oh, I understand that but... Everyone always talks about how good we are at drafting WR's .. We seemingly take one every year in the 3rd round it seems...How different would the Steelers look now, If instead of those WR's...We took OL in those 3rd rounds?

You're right, but bringing back Ben didn't make us a better offense OR save us money.

Hawkins, okrafor, gray, dotson. It's not like we haven't drafted the position. We had foster, AV, Feiler, finney and two first rounders. Losing Gray hurt. The kid from fla. We lost as well.

Do you think that the older the OL is the less they are able to run block? It seems that way.

I think it takes its toll on players as they age. Lots of beating over the years can't help the human body as they age. I think it's like most people as they age, you start using more brains then brawn. The years of collisions take their toll. They don't move as well.
