I hope you're right, this overrated talk is a bunch of hogwash, you don't get rid of players like Pouncey, if they can afford him that is.

You don't let an all-pro, pro-bowl type player walk out the door. If he's healthy you let him return and sign him. we already let players that we grow leave without any compensation. And everyone knows our history of poor oline play. Keep him. Move Velesco to guard or keep Wallace as backup to Pouncey.

Pouncy - Good - all pro (questionable) - overrated (yes)

Just saying that when Pouncey left, there wasn't much difference or impact with the other centers playing.

But when Adams finally got benched, there was a huge difference and major impact with the O line.

Although Pouncey is most likely the best center on the team, you have to account for how much of a difference he makes in comparison to the ohters centers and is it worth the price..

I just don 't see that much of a difference or impact between all of them if they were all paid the same. Now if Pouncey makes 3 times more than the other centers, couldn't we use that money to help in other areas the have greater needs...

problem is you will be looking for a new center in the 2-3 years pounce is 24... he is a lot better in space than wallace and velasco ...actually its not even close...the whole line played better...not just the LT position ... Decastro Foster and people don't want to admit it but Gilbert did as well...he had a bad game against cleveland ..so that is what is fresh in peoples mind...trust me you do not want to give up pouncey...

on top of everything Gilbert only had 2 Holding call against him in a full 16 game season...I am not saying he is Joe thomas, but he showed signs of improvement, ability to stay healthy this year.

one game he graded high not several. it's your story and you can tell it any way you like, but it doesn't make it true. read the title, marcus gilbert and his up and down season. 2nd round pick, RT only, 3rd year in the league and we are still talking about him being inconsistent. there is a reason, sorry you can't and won't see it.

are you one of the guys that wanted max back too? he saved our season ya know? how about colon? kemoeatu? how did you like those guys? we can do better in front of our 102 million dollar qb. if your happy with this line, then that's all I need to hear.

i'll betcha, I can come up with way more negative press on gilbert than you can top ratings. do you really watch these linemen or are your views just in general? one top grade doesn't make gilbert that good, sorry. we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

Quite the opposite....Did not even want him near the team again....he looked god awful in SD and even worse in st. louis....

I betcha I could come up with just as many positives as your negatives...anyway we could do this forever like you said...and yes i do watch the lineman...quite often i might add after the game on the nfl game rewind...if you do not have it...its a must purchase for any fan...20 bucks and all the access to the steelers games you can ask for when they are over

Here is my predicted breakdown on the pouncey contract 5 yr 23 mil with a 8.5 mil signing bonus 30 mil total contract

    2015 --3.5 mil 1.68 bonus = 5.18 cap charge
    2016 --4 mil 1.68 bonus = 5.68 cap charge
    2017-- 4.5 mil 1.68 bonus = 6.18 cap charge
    2018 -- 5 mil 1.68 bonus = 6.68 cap charge
    2019 -- 6 mil 1.68 bonus= 7.18 cap charge

not unreasonable to think this is the contract he will get and we would be able to afford even higher..will take him to 30 years old

    I like this comment lol

Good riddance. Spend that money on much needed upgrades/depth at other positions. Let Pouncey get on to his life's work as Hernandez's defense attorney. This guy has underachieved and regressed since his rookie year and is a D-bag off the field. Hopefully Valesco proves to be a nice pickup and even makes Pouncey expendable.

Seriously? Pouncey, with his 3 all-pro selections, is going to take that contract? Have you looked at what some other centers are getting (besides Mangold's $50 million contract)?
Ryan Kalil, Panthers 6 years/49 million, 24 MM guaranteed
Chris Myers, Houston 4 yrs/25 MM, 14 MM guaranteed
David Baas, Giants 5 years/27.5 MM, cap hits over 8 MM/yr for 2014-15
John Sullivan, Minnesota 6 year/25.6 MM, 10 MM guaranteed
Max Unger, Seattle 4 years/25.835 MM, 11.5 MM guaranteed
Dominic Raiola, Detroit 4 years/20 MM
Eric Wood, Buffalo 4 year, 25.5 MM, 14.55 MM guaranteed

You really think Pouncey is going to take 5 years, 30 MM and make a million/year more than Dominic Raiola's contract? I think he's going to be looking for the kind of money that Kalil and Mangold got. The numbers that you're throwing out there are along the lines of what a bunch of guys who have far fewer media accolades that Pouncey have received.

You talk about his 3 all-pro selections like it is a bad thing...

Myers who I consider one of the top 5 centers in the league along with pouncey has a similar structured contract...

The contract I structured is nowhere neat raiolas

It will be around the 30 mil mark possibly the signing bonus might be in the 10 mil range... but thats just a guess...

Your problem is your looking at the total contract value of some of these...you have to look how it is broken down and back loaded...some of these guys will never see the end to the deal...

I have to agree. Add to this the fact that Pouncey is injured and I see no way that the Steelers and Pouncey will come to an agreement. It would not be smart for the Steelers to give him a big fat new contract when they don't know how he will come back from his injury. They will be so far apart that I don't see it happening. I know many will not like to hear this but it may be better if the Steelers trade him than make him play his last year of his contract.

I'd like to point out that it is an indubitable truth that the O-line played better in the last half of the 2013 season than they ever have in the past 3-4 years.

I think Pouncey is clearly the best center out of the three we started this year, but I am not sure it is worth signing him to a big contract when the O-line just got done playing at their best level ever, without him in the lineup. I don't think a big contract is worth a slight upgrade to a position that doesn't really matter. Sure Pouncey is athletic and all, but we proved that we can protect Ben and clear holes for Bell with a slightly less athletic center.

Now....if Pouncey was a Tackle, absolutely pay him the big bucks (even guard), but I would rather not want to see us waste money on a center. Spend that money to retain Worilds long term.

I love Pouncey like you all too, but I think the team is better off spending the money elsewhere. (We don't even know if he will return to form after the injury...same with Velasco)
