Saquon Barkley sitting out in week #18.

The Eagles have decided to bench their starters including Saquon Barkley in their last game against the Giants. Barkley is only 101 yards behind Eric Dickerson's rushing record and would probably easily get it against the woeful Giants but the Eagles are locked into the #2 seed and have no reason to win the game. As a fan I would like to see him go for the record but I see the other side that says what if Barkley gets injured and is out for the playoffs.

 

The old 16 game vs 17 game argument would have come up. Different game in 1984.

No way he should play. Majority of NFL fans want one thing for their team and it's the SB. And every Bird fan I know wants his ass on the bench. I told them Duce Staley has some great sweaters he could wear on the sidelines

Not much satisfaction in saying we lost in the Playoffs but our RB set an NFL rushing record.

 

How close was he in 16 games, this year averaging 5.9 per carry, 6.7 yrds over 16 games would have gotten him that 101 yards. So close, yet so far, lol.

 

There would be an easy counter to that argument. Dickerson carried the ball 379 times for the Rams in 1984. Barkley only has 345 carries so far this season. He would have gotten the record despite carrying the ball fewer times than Dickerson did 40 years ago. Hell, the Eagles are playing the Giants Sunday. Five or six carries might have been enough.

 

But if they don't make the Superbowl then they get neither.
