Right now he's hurting the team IMO, those passes Ben throws to him are wasted downs. I heard on the radio the last 13 passes Ben has thrown to him have been incomplete . I know they are trying to work him back into the offense with his broken fingers, but probably better off taking some shots with Cobi Hamilton.

And he made no attempt to fight for them.

Regardless of what we think, until Ladarius Green gets more comfortable within the offense, Sammie is still the option.

Cobi does not bring the speed necessary to attack down field. He can catch the ball far better than Sammie but lacks the explosive abilities that Sammie provides.

As stated previously, until Green gets up to speed, Sammie is thr only option.

If he doesn't catch the ball, is he really an option? I read where they are "trying to work him back into the game", but at what cost? This is as bad as a member, not to be named, who suggests we use DHB because he is fast and makes a good decoy.

Sadly so until Green gets back up to speed. There really is not another deep threat on the team outside of Green and Coates who are readily available.

    Considering that Sammie is now having a sophomore slump, I suppose the next course of action is what we saw in Indy;

    lots of AB and "Juice".

Furthermore, I do not entertain the idea of Sammie being "eased back in" more than anyone that does not either but these are the current circumstances we have to deal with.

To throw to a guy with 8 good fingers is not being smart. Wasting downs, especially 3rd downs throwing to a guy with 8 fingers is very very dumb...

As I stated, I do not like the idea as much as you do. However, the current dilemma is how quick can Green increase his play speed. He showed good progress against Indianapolis. If he can continue that against New York, then Sammie does not need to be as important as much, which in turn, decreases the likelihood of Sammies chances getting the ball.

Playing with 2 broken fingers is kind of hard especially if your a WR.

Exactly! Let's face it, the guy was drafted in the 3rd round because he didn't have great hands. I'm willing to give him a little bit of a pass because of the broken fingers but you know he's got to be making catches in practice for them to try to go deep to him multiple times in every game. If he's demonstrated that he can't catch in practice then why waste throws to him during a game? That would be incredibly stupid!

Do you know how common it is for NFL receivers to get jammed and fractured fingers, it's just part of the position, just about every receiver in the league has that injury at one time or another especially those who has a QB that throws with heat....Thats no excuse for coates if he cant catch the damn ball then sit it out untill he can....

They spend way too much time trying to get the ball to Sammy and not enough time throwing to Eli Rogers. That dude can catch. And he seems willing to fight for the tough throws.

No, not every WR is playing with the injury Coates is, not even close.

But yes, if he can't catch because of it, get him out of there.

Edit: Actually, he's probably still playing because they have no deep threat without him. Whether he's catching them or not, defenses still have to cover it.

I'm concerned that he just can't catch period. Even in his big game against the Jets earlier this year he dropped two or three passes that should have been caught. I guess he is what he is, a great athlete and speed guy with suspect hands, even without the injury to the two fingers.

Well he's no Calvin Johnson (IE Megatron) but in 2013 CJ played with 3 fractured fingers and had a probowl year, I just think coates concentrates more on his fingers than he does catching the ball...

Before his injury, in the 5 games leading up to it, he had 421 yards. He was on pace for 1,000 yard season easy. I don't know what his drop ratio is, but I'll take that production. Not to mention he had big plays in all those games, IIRC.

And are his fingers affecting his legs? It also looks to me like he isn't getting the kind of separation he was getting earlier in the season either.

Besides him not catching the ball when it hits his hands, he is not fighting or getting into position to help himself. Almost like he dosen't want to catch it. This has been doing this since at least the Miami game.

I'm with others that say don't throw to him until he demonstrates in practice that he can catch. It is so stupid to throw long passes to him on 3 and 2, and he has no separation, how many times does Ben do this when it all he had to was a dump to Bell, Eli, or tight end and continue the drive.

It was an abysmal 19.1% in college. I'd bet the farm it's worse than that as a pro so far.
