can someone please explain to me what is going on with Shazier?
Lately, Vince Williams and and Spence have been getting all the snaps.

I saw Shazier yesterday come in for Timmons on 1 or two plays.

I realize Williams and Spence have been playing great, but have our coaches lost confidence in Shazier?

Or are they bringing him along slowly due to his last injury?

What the heck are they going to do next year? Does Shazier automatically start over Spence and Williams.

I believe they're being careful with him, and taking advantage of having other guys that can atleast manage the position, until he's 100% healthy and also back up to speed from being out.

    just my two cents...

I had read somewhere that he has to earn back what was handed to him early on. he was handed the starting spot but since he's been out so long and spence and Williams have played well, it's not a gimme situation right now. he will slowly earn the job back. his play and practice will dictate that, I'd guess.

if Shazier does get his starting role back, and VW and Spence will go back to the bench, that will not sit well with VW...

which ever of the 3 plays the best, they get the starting role, the crybaby of the 3 can go bye bye. Shazier is always hurt so it would only be temporally

Initially they handed him the job because of the investment, plus they were concerned Spence/Williams couldn't get it done. Then Shazier got hurt, and Spence/Williams have gotten it done. Shazier is going to have to work his way back into the starting lineup.

If I had to guess, I'd say he remains a backup this year, but starts next year.

that's my guess but I can tell you if all things were equal in the games that they both played this year, I think Williams has played the best of the 3.

I would use him in a sub package as much as they were walking Troy up to the line as run stopper they could use Shazier in there in run support, speed to cover a TE and potentially to rush the passer on a delayed blitz.

I like that a lot , seems like a solid approach to get more speed on the field .

I agree. They should find a way to get him out there, even if he's not starting. Perhaps when we play a team with an athletic tight end, he'll see more of the field.

Now your talking simple and effective. We need to generate "splash" on defense.

I thought VW played well last year as a rookie and is showing signs of being better this year, now that he's getting a chance to play more. That's why I will never understand why we took an ILB in the first round, no matter his skillset. I know they like to draft the best player on the board, but it's OK to draft for a need every once in a while.
