Good luck Shazier. Oh what could’ve been. I told most he was not gonna play again, he had a terrible gait and it’s been 3 years now. Poor guy

Ryan is a great human. I have no doubt he will do great things in life.
He has already over come so much.

Once a Steeler always a Steeler.

His football career may of been cut short, but no doubt in my mind Ryan will succeed with his life's work, as Coach Noll used to always say,
Football is just a period of time of something that you do, before you get on with your life's work.

Giving up football is a big disappointment for him but at the end of the day, I’m sure he’s just happy to be walking and enjoying life with his kids.

Best wishes to Ryan and his family. I hope if he decides to get into coaching/scouting someday that the Steelers
    have him on speed dial.

    Bummer that situation was:(

100% convinced we beat Jacksonville in that playoff game if he was playing.

I'm glad he made this decision! Would have loved to see him blossom but he needed to remove the doubt and get on with his life.

God bless him and his family!

I still believe sometime in the next year or two he puts on some pads and his jersey buckles the helmet and takes one final snap even if it just ceremoniously and says thats it i can walk away for good now.

I wish him all the luck in the world and cheer him on to his future. He can always count on Steeler Nation to have his back.

Sucks his career ended but it’s good he’s moving on from the idea to come back. He’s still young, he has wealth he will be ok.

I hope that he can use his injury as a platform to teach younger players the danger of tackling with your head.
It's a shame to lose his talent on the field, but maybe the next chapter will be his true life's work.

    Hey Blast.

I have listed the Stages of Grief here several times. Here they are again.

    1. Denial and isolation
    2. Anger
    3. Bargaining
    4. Depression
    5. Acceptance

If would seem that to some extent, Mr. Shazier has arrived at "Acceptance". Anyone that has competed in sports, not just played, but competed and experiences a career ending event, understands this process. It is difficult. I continue to go through it with my running career. It has been years now and I can honestly say that I still have not arrived at #5. Honestly, I do not plan on it either.

There is one major goal that I still yearn to accomplish, decades later. I work on it each and every day and will continue to. There are no laws that say I can't.

Just because Mr. Shazier seems to have come to some type of realization about returning to play for now, it does not mean it is etched in stone. He still is young enough to come back. On the outside, and via his video above, he is saying one thing but my guess is that there is probably still an "Autopilot Light" on somewhere that has not given up a return. Hey, nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong at all. All of the best to you Mr. Shazier. Trust me, I get it and I am sure that there are many others on this Board that do as well (smile). What is life without optimism?
