Yeah, it's the one thing they can't teach...SPEED!

Whatever you say about him, he blows the top off defenses and as long as you have a QB to extend the play or a half decent line, defenses have to respect that.

Wallace was a good WR. He had good hands and elite speed. He rarely ran rtes across the middle nor was he a good blocker. His job, one trick pony, was to go deep opening thinks up underneath.

Wheaton is more of a complete WR. He has good hands and exceptional speed. He runs more and better rtes plus he's a better blocker. In the long run we'll be better off with Wheaton.

I think what the team is missing is size. When Ward was here, he wasn't the biggest, but he'd make those tough catches and really use body positioning to his advantage.

Baltimore won several games due to the reciever size/strength.

The issue isn't purely speed here as if you have a little more size you can afford to be less precision on a few passes and expect the receiver to go get it with authority.

Just looking at the deep ball, a 6'2"/6'4" receiver against a 5'11"/6'0" CB is going to have a significant advantage. All he has to do is get his head around and make an attempt at the ball for a PI call and it looks legit as if he had a clear line to get it as the smaller DB runs into him.

Ben has to drop those passes in instead of just leading them a little bit more or putting a little more hieght on it.

You have to watch the "speed" argument too. When you get into the high end guys the difference can be a mere decimal and hardly discernible. What matters more is football speed.

Rice didn't have it but no one caught him.

Why do you think the Steelers gave the money to AB? Wheaton is a clone of AB. Watch how they get in and out of their routes, watch how they attack the football when catching it. I get alot more out of it when you hear an accomplished player like Ryan Clark
make statements like this one.The Steelers have to FIGURE out how to get the ball into their receivers hands at the CORRECT point when they can do the most damage, the Steelers HAVE players capable of making plays. Ryan Clark knows this.

Im not that upset to not have Wallace. In fact, I got him in my fantasy league (auto draft) and I was pissed. He is fast, no doubt, but I guess last season just left a sour taste in my mouth. He doesnt fight for the ball or block and his diva attitude is ridiculous.

An awful lot of praise going to a rookie who hasn't played in a single regular season game yet guys. I think some here are starting to count their eggs before they hatch....so to speak. I'm all for Wheaton making us forget all about Wallace but what has he really done so far, after 1 preseason game mind you, to deserve all of this praise? Clark can say he's already better than Wallace, and I hope he's right, but he has to prove it with his play first. ;)
