After looking at the price of LG's last year Foster was ranked 15th as far as highest paid, making 1.833mil. Maybe if he isn't looking for more the 2 mil we have a shot and that isn't gonna hurt us. I am also looking at cap space right now and if the cap goes to 154 mil, we would have 10.2 mil without doing anything else right now. Maybe we can afford Foster as long as he isn't trying to break the bank.

fosters cap hit last year was 2.15 mil. for the year. i doubt it will go down. even if it stays the same we would be down to around 8 mil. with gay, golden and the draft picks to sign yet. it could be eaten up pretty quick if nothing were to change. thats probably about 2 mil. more than finney would cost. i wouldn't mind spencer drango in the 3rd rd. as a new plug in at that spot. it would also give us another left tackle capable guy if something happened.

So here's a question I thought about today. Ryan Clark says he will give Weddle is number if he will come here. But Ryan Clark was number 25 and Weddle is number 32. So what is he talking about?

We have plenty more cap space available, should we choose to use it. Extending DeCastro will save 3-4 mil. Extending Timmons to a reasonable deal could net another 5 or so. I don't like going to the restructuring bank too often, but we may be able to free up another 3 mil with minimal risk by redoing Heyward's roster bonus. We can go way further if we want to, but those are easy deals that don't kick too much pain down the road.

Yeah. So Clark wore number 25 and Weddle wears number 32. So Clark is saying "Hey if you come to Pittsburgh you can change numbers." LOL.

Mac, I think SE pointed out some good as to how we could get more cap space, also lots of talk about Sushi and Allen being cut and/or traded to make more cap space. My point however when was the last time we were 10 mil on the good this time of year, if I remember right the last several years we have to make moves just to get under the cap. 10 Mil feels like a blessing, lol.

As far as Foster goes yeah his cap number was 2.15 (1.85 + 300k) and if he don't want a whole lot more I would keep him. He is 30 we could offer a very similar deal he signed before maybe like 3yr 8 mil, if he signs it great if he don't we have guys and like SE said we draft one as well.

That's kinda what I was thinking. 3yr/8mil would be a good deal if we're trying to keep him. He understands it's his last pay day, but I can't see him getting any more than that on the open market. Being 30 I feel like most teams would rather draft a guy and see instead of paying Foster to be a stop gap starter. We would be the team that values him the highest IMO.

I think having him next to AV again would be really good for Villy by keeping some sort of continuity for a guy coming into his first year as a full time starter. He's a locker room leader too. I think he's worth that price tag.

i know we can make moves but he was talking about as is money with just the cap increase. cortez, suisham, maybe even moats if they wanted, spaeth, shamarko, several other cuts would free some money too. if we could eat timmons money this year we would be better off but then we would have to make a decision on him next year with some biggies looming. plus a hole to fill. we have to be careful with these rentals though.

Yes I was talking about the cap increase, some say 154-155mil which puts us at 10 mil of space. I think extensions for Timmons and DD should be done for several reasons....none bigger then both being pretty damn good players. Also lock up 2 more positions for the next 3-4 years and opening up some more cap space. Just them two players would open up around 8 mil....wow before you know it we could have 20-25 mil of space which I am sure we haven't seen in a while.

Boykin wore 25 this year. If Boykin comes back I'm sure he'll wear it. And if he signs somewhere else I'm sure they'll retire #25, you know with Boykin being the best ever and all!

I can see it now Ernie Stautner, Mean Joe and Boykin.
I'll bet they even give Boykin one of those lockers in the Great Hall at Heinz field. It'll have a piece of the bench where Tomlin made him sit all year.
We'll wear a sticker with the #25 on our helmets in honor of Boykin.
Probably have a jersey retirement night for Boykin against the Ravens next season, we'll wear our throwbacks and watch one of those Renegade videos dedicated to him.
    It'll be glorious!

Of course we'll have to check with Clark, since he's in charge of handing out jersey #'s and all.
    I'm stoked!

    Lol...

Maybe not wearing Franco's 32? I know it's not technically retired, but I think it would be tough to pick a guy up then slap the 32 on him. Clark was just showing respect to Weddle by telling him to wear his 25 if he signs with the Steelers.

It would be nice to see another 25 roaming the back end. I loved Ryan Clark (for a lot of the same reasons why I love Mike Mitchell). Improved safety play will go a long way helping our corners out.

We can't give him #32, but let's give him #33 and have him dress like Frenchy Fuqua on game days to honor the former #33.

I was thinking that it was weird though for Clark to tell him he could have 25 since Boykin wears that number now.

Yeah the Boykin thing is what gave me pause as well. I plan on attending the Boykin jersey retirement and the Blake signing...for any other team. Lol.
