After looking at every factor I could possibly find and/or think of for weeks on end now, I have come to the conclusion that I want the Steelers to do one of two things at quarterback in 2022. Either

    1. Get TRULY serious about this team's prospects and future NOW, and go all in on the ONLY quarterback this offseason who is both a PROVEN and a LONG TERM option - Russell Wilson. Yes, I know, it will cost. So what? Do you want a guy you can put pieces around and have a TRUE shot at a Lombardi each year? Or do you want to save the Rooney's some money (they won't be sending you any thank yous, by the way) and try to convince yourself with your eyes closed and all your lucky charms in tow that hey, we could win it with <insert schlub's name here>? Maybe. Possibly. OK, with an onside kick recovery's percentage chance...

Yes, Rodgers is proven. But he ain't long term. I've seen enough of Watson to call him proven, too, but calling him long term is just too much of a gamble with his murky future right now. And I challenge any of you to prove to me that anyone else, either vet acquisition or rookie draft pick, is both proven and long term. Go ahead, convince me. Ha ha, who knows, maybe you will.

    Or

    2. Forget WASTING a 2022 investment in either a gamble or a desperation move with anyone else, add a cheap free agent or developmental end of draft guy or two to Rudy and Husky, go with whichever of that lot doesn't look utterly ridiculous this offseason, and plan on going all in in 2023, whatever that means (trade up in the draft, or big investment in a top young vet, whomever that may be that offseason).

But make any kind of multi-year investment in someone else this offseason, when you KNOW he's not as good an option as either 1 or 2 above? Sure, he MAY pan out, but being honest with yourself, deep down where you can't run and hide from the truth you truly know, you don't believe it? No thanks, not me.

Give me Wilson, or I'll pass until 2023.

Yea he does. Next thing you know people would want to draft Ridder from Cincinnati. A very poor man's Russel Wilson.

Doesn't bother me any. I welcome differing views. Would prefer some reasoning behind them, but I've lived in this world for 58 years now, so I've seen all kinds, ha ha.

And I'm used to being right in the face of 99% being wrong, so you won't bother me by calling my ideas whatever you wish ;).

Speaking of Russell Wilson, Tim Hasselback said earlier this week that he is convinced that Wilson plays for the Steelers next year. I don't know that if he has inside information or just a hunch but that's what he thinks.

I think you are pretty on point

Where I differ... is I'm still not sure you will have to trade for either Watson or Rodgers.

Rodgers cost the Packers 46mill this year if he is on the roster unless they work out an extension, and they are like 40 mill over the cap before extending or tagging Devonte Adams. If Rodgers wants out all he has to do is not renegotiate.... they try to trade him somewhere he doesn't want to go.. he just says I'll retire.... makes him untradeable ... then for training camp.. changed my mind.. they would have to either cut him or 46 mill worth of players immediately

Watson contract is 35mill guaranteed on the first day of the league year. If they get rid of him it's only 10mill on the books. How much do the Texans need the cap? I don't know... but how much do they think they will get for a guy who at best will have not played football for over a year and most likely looking at at least an 8 game suspension if he goes to jail or not .... so they want to pay him 35mill to sit out another year. Again.. Watson has a no trade clause.. so he gets to say which teams he even wants to play for. If Detroit offers 10 first round pickd . By Watson says no. It does not happen. If Watson says ill only play for the Steelers... they can take what they get or get nothing.

Where I agree is letting Mason and Haskins have a year vs reaching for a guy.

But where we differ slightly. Im ok with a 2 or 3 year guy then finding the next guy after that

So to me its one of three options

1 Mason,Haskins, vet FA, Dobbs.. may the best man win and look to 23 draft

    2. An Aaron Rodgers for a couple years and a 23 draft pick to sit behind him

    3. Aquire a Wilson/Watson... for the next decade

And other people have hunches that we're getting Deshaun Watson, Aaron Rodgers, etc. When it's all said and done they will all be wrong.

Ah the lesser known Hasselback, the guy who's career means even less than Chris Sims and who has to remind people he played and who his brother is before he offers a wrong opinion. This could indeed be a broken clock moment and Timmy could be right but........I don't think so.

It's cool to speculate about who we think or who we want to replace Benny boy but I think those who have followed this organization know it's between the 3 guys we have and some rookie we draft.

My prediction, Mason beats them out. O-line improves, Harris becomes a bigger threat and Steelers have a much better season then many predict.

If anyone thinks that either Green Bay or Seattle will just cut Rodgers or Wilson have been

    upload_2022-2-25_9-50-14.jpeg

And how much capital would have to be given up in a trade of either? Or Carr? A LOT!

Ride with Mason and Haskins and build the trenches ect unless they have their eye on a QB in the draft not named Willis or Pickett. They have a lot of needs at this point and it's not going to be a one year fix.

Who is "they", and where is the actual quote?

(I'm curious, and not sure what you are referring to.)

Colbert said they will bring 4 QB to camp. nothing ground breaking there.

No I don't think Wilson will be cut... Doubt he is traded

Watson prob3 won't get cut because the Texans are poorly run... they still think they getting multiple first round picks for him and are willing to pay him 35 mill to not play this year

I do think Rodgers might get cut. The whole reason they are where they are is last year Rodgers said five.. ill trade you one year of play to make it easier for me to leave next year. It's all on him. I think he will most likely stay in GB. But I think he is not likely to get cut than to have a team trade the farm to get him. If Rodgers wants another SB its in his best interst to not only pick his spot but also not drain that spot of all its resources that would help him win games

I'm looking at the KDKA article from Feb 21.
"Colbert said the team definitely will add a quarterback, but whether it’s a draft pick or a free-agent acquisition remains to be determined."

    Nothing about two QBs.

Like Steelhack said, they carry 4 QBs to camp.
If Dobbs is healthy, they could sign him for another 1 year contract as the "camp arm".

I just edited while you responded.
If all they need is a 4th arm (not a starter contender), Dobbs could be brought back. In which case, 1 more.

That's why I was curious if KC said "two" specifically. Dobbs was put on IR, unlikely to be a factor, but I haven't heard anything definitive about him.

Which is my 2023 option. And that's fine with me. As I said, either Wilson or 2023.

What I absolutely DON'T want is for them to invest in a guy for several years that I don't believe will ever be truly great. And that applies to every potentially available quarterback I'm aware of THIS offseason not named Russell Wilson. Because Rodgers won't be a multiple year investment, Watson may not play for multiple years (or ever again), and all of the others are just-a-guy.
