I was looking at the statistics for WRs and RBs and to my surprise, there are more RBs with over 600yrds than WRs with over 600yrds. Is the tide turning to more of a running league? I don't feel like AB has had a monstrous season at this point, but leads the league in receiving yards. All the elite receivers seems to be having a slow season. Maybe Leveon Bell is right that he's trend setter.

I think it's more of an aberration - poor to mediocre QB performances (talent???) coupled with some key injuries at WR. Considering that BB is 4th in passing yardage in the whole NFL tells it all. There are some horrid QB's in the NFL right now. Offenses also take what Defenses give them and seems like pass defense has more focus after continual claims that it's a passing league.

Keep in mind that Ben is 4th in passing yards because many QBs have played 7 games and Ben has played 8.

I see said the blind man who couldn't speak. You're right - BB is 11th overall in YPG, but.........he's still 3rd in YPG in the AFC if that counts.

The RB position is making a serious comeback....
Perennial offensive powerhouse n.o. saints are now a power running team..... the jags live and die with fornette. . The bills offense starts and ends with shady McCoy...... you have Ezekiel Elliott in Dallas, Todd Gurley for the rams, and the list goes on....... the 1st rd. RB is back en vogue, as well....... it's no wonder that Leveon bell is trying to capitalize

Just the way it swings - seems DB's have caught up, passing this year is down all around and now your seeing the RB picking up the pace.

Watch there be a half dozen wr's with 200+ yards this week.

    You know how it goes.

There have been some injuries at QB too, but I do think it's returning to a running league. These things are cyclical. The offense go high octane pass and the defense adjusts. Now it seems like there are so many really good pass rushing DL and smaller faster ILBs, that teams think they can power run on the front 7.

Most young Qb's coming into the league have not been trained
in NFL offensive play. Alot of them (Big 12) hardly ever go from center.
You will see more running while the aging Qb's like Ben, Eli, Rivers, Palmer. Flacco
skills set has broken down and there replacements get their feet wet.

    I agree with the OP.

I made a post regarding this very subject last season and got eviscerated for saying such. Glad I was not the only one who foresaw this new beginning of a position that was once thought to be "dying out".

Due to the rise of sub package football and rule changes within the past few years, offensive coordinators have a better method on how to defeat the new era of the NFL that is exploitation of personnel weaknesses; brute force.

Teams like Jacksonville, Tennessee, Kansas City, Dallasa and Chicago understand what is occuring. Due to the lack of man power up front for the defense, this mitigates the defenses ability to stop the run effectively in most circumstances. As such, considering the league became more air friendly, teams have used nickelbacks to compensate to balance out and hopefully neutralize any opposing threat, running backs are running more free than they have been in the past.

This is not accounting for the fact that the running back talent that has surfaced since 2015 has also ushered in this "new generation" of football.

Now, is this also due to the inept quarterback play? Absolutley. Should we discerdit the running backs? Oh most certainly not.

I think you are also seeing the officials allowing more hand checking and let DB's play more in the mold of the Seahawks in an effort to let them slow down high powered offenses.

I can't say I watch anywhere close to even half of the NFL games each week anymore, but are missed tackles plaguing other teams as well? If my team has a high YPC because the other team's defense can't tackle, then hell yea I would turn around and hand off a lot more. Could be a contributing factor as well??

Agreed, sportscenter highlights showing big hits have eroded wrap-up tackling over the last decade

I think it is, The fundamentals in football are really lacking. I see bad play week in week out. Granted I don't
watch as much football as I use to or keep up with it, but what I see is really lacking. Isn't fundamentals being taught at pee wee, JR high, High school anymore? You better have your fundamentals down before you reach the high school level.
