This is worse than the Kordell bashing on the old Sporting News forums in the late 90's. And it got really bad. I was a Kordell apologist.

Those were fun days... Windows 98, Napster, The Matrix, Korn.... even though the Steelers sucked.

I would like to see them sit Mason for at least a game or two because he wasn't blameless in all that transpired and got knocked around pretty good. I put Hodges in and see if the kid can provide a spark of any kind and if he does you run with him. Nothing to lose at this point and I just don't see Hodges performing worse. Rudolph's accuracy is all over the place and he doesn't have the ability to create something out of nothing. Hodges I believe might be able to.

Nope. We are past the point of no return. Gotta roll with Rudolph. Let's see how he does vs. the Bengals. Duck would have not done any better with AV regularly whiffing on blocking Garrett.

Yeah... I thought DeCastro did awful vs. Donald, but AV was even more horrific vs. Garrett. AV got used and abused by Garrett all night long. It was painful to watch. Steelers are gonna need O-line help in the offseason. May have to draft LT in 2nd round.

Not to be a MR apologist.... but how many backup QB’s get thrust into a role where your star players are 3rd & 4th RB’s and a WR that just signed from the practice squad and played significant time in the game? This team is decimated with injuries right now.

My criticism of Rudolph is not based on the overall results or stats. Nor am I going to give him a pass due to poor O-line play or lack of top-notch skill players. It's solely due to the passes he's thrown. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt if under pressure or whatever, but he has just thrown some horrific passes when not under pressure and when receivers are open.

I wrote in another thread but cue up the video of the four INTs last night. He wasn't under pressure in any of them. They were just very bad throws. That's on him. The failure of the offense in total isn't all on him, but let's not sugarcoat it either. He's part of the problem,

    Pretty much this.

Nothing much Mason can do honestly. The fact of the matter is Mason was under siege all game long. Not many QBs can operate like that via consistent pressure.

Heck, we JUST did that to Jared Goff; the $100 Million Dollar Man.

I thought last night was a pretty much a systemic failure offensively. Mason was a mess and the talent around him isn't NFL quality.

If Tomlin is the head coach in 2020, he has to go out and get the best offensive coordinator he can find. Rip this thing down to the studs.

You're right. Not gonna disagree. Rudolph made some terrible throws. If he stinks it up in the first quarter vs. Bungles, then Tomlin needs to make a move with Duck. I don't think it's gonna be necessary. The team should be fired up after this loss. Steelers can still right the ship, Rudolph included.

    Hey KMM.

Yes, I must agree with your assessment of his INTs. I have been one of his biggest supporters. I wanted "less leash". He did let us down last night. Given that, we all have had a bad day at the office. I really felt though that he was building confidence and momentum. I am not going to let this one game change my mind. Even the best have them but boy those picks were awful. I know his body of work is small but even given that last night's performance was inexcusable. Water under the bridge now. Time to move on. Short-term memory is part of the fix. Has to be. STEELWINDS AKA The East Side Kid

I think Duck would have done better. He would have run around and nothing gases 300 lb linemen more than chasing a rabbit. Tired defense leads to good things on opposing offense.

There's no real way of knowing if Hodges would have done better or not since he didn't play that game. If they stick with Mason the season is done. Yeah we may beat the Bengals but big deal we should beat them. Hodges has better footwork and quicker decision-making abilities of that much I'm sure. We may find out sooner than we think if Hodges can do better or not.

Only two Steeler Qb’s have won their first start in last 50 years. Duck and Ben. Duck was no scrub as he set records in his division in college. You can’t do that without being accurate. If he was 3 inches taller, he would be a first rounder. Don’t believe his listed height of 6 ft 1. He’s less than 6 ft tall because he was clearly more than an inch shorter than JuJu who is listed at 6 ft 1.

A TE in motion blocking on Garrett's side would have been helpful. Walsh and Gibbs did it to try to stop Lawrence Taylor. I didn't see us doing that.

ok the dust has settled and I’m still rooting for mason. I agree with blast furnace that maybe he should be benched and needs some confidence

Im not sure if we are capable of that right now with this mix.

When ever the camera cuts to the bench, I saw Fichtner talking his head off and Rudolph looking disinterested. One of them is missing some marbles and I’m not sure who

    This.

Mason is a competitor and his fortitude and willpower did leave an impression with me on Thursday. For that matter, that willpower and fortitude has left an impression on me all season. I do not remember too many young QBs if any who had to endure what Mason has thus far in his career.

Yes, Mason threw some tragic INTs. That said, he kept fighting out there in which most young QBs would simply yield completely or even be crushed under the immense pressure. Even his post game comments showed me a young QB that is able to move on from such shortcomings in a game that did not go well and that this season is far from over.

Of course, having both, as rare as those traits are even for good QBs, means little to nothing. Mason has to continue to improve. I do hope that having an extended period of prep time will help. Only time will tell of course.

    I believe he can.
