Rubio is better than Black

After watching some All 22 I’m convinced Gabe Rubio is better than Yahya Black. I like them both but Rubio doesn’t give up as much ground as Black does, he is more gap sound and he gets off blocks better.

Black has only one year under his belt playing against nfl players

They play two different positions

Other than that this makes no sense

 

I kind of see them on the field together.

Black at the Nose and Rubio at DE.

They will probably be rotating a lot of the DL out this year to keep them fresh. I feel good about the depth.

 

Happy that Rubio is getting all the positive reviews.

Sounds like he's very hard to move around and will be good against the run.

This is good because Derrick Henry still exists and we play him 2x a year (assuming he remains superhuman and stays healthy).

 

Rubio played a lot of NT on the all 22. But yes as I mentioned it was against inferior talent but Black was on the field the same time as him on a lot of the plays and getting driven back on one on one blocks.

 

This is the deepest DL we've had in a long time. To go along with awesome edge rushers. I like it.

 

I heard they are going to do alit0f 3olb sets with Herbig playing in the middle rushing over the A or B gap. I love that idea.

 

Read a writeup on the Depot about Rubio. They are still stuck on this idea of "guy doesn't offer much in the way of pass rushing".

My question; why is that an issue when you got 3 outside LBs that can rush the QB? I want someone who can stop Henry from running rampant through the Steelers DL. Dude averaged almost 5 yds a carry against the Steelers last season. It's gotta stop!

 

Didn't Black struggle when asked to play the nose last year, too?

Black has room to grow, but maybe needs to be at end rather than playing the nose.

 

Rubio looks like a strong late round draft pick. He only faced backups in the preseason, but the tape was still grade-A. It’s rare to see a 320-pound lineman play with that kind of motor, shed blocks the way he does, and consistently make plays against the run. He spent a lot of time in the backfield and finished tackles. He’s also very aware of where the ball is. His dad was drafted by the Steelers in the 1990s.

 

Don't go bringing logic to the conversation.

 

Teams want players that can at least push the pocket so the quarterback can't step up to avoid the edge rush. If their is pressure up the middle, they either eat the sack from the edge rusher or they step up and get ingulfed by the interior defensive linemen.

That's what they talk about, but I get your point. If a guy can stuff the run and put teams in long down and distance situation, that has a ton of value.

I’m not sure that’s logic. Why give grace to Black and not Rubio? Rubio is even more inexperienced than Black bit from what I have seen on tape already appears ahead of him. Rubio and Black were on the field at the sa,e time playing against the same guys and at times Rubio was over the nose. I saw Rubio not giving u- g`round which I could not say the same for Black. Rubio has better hand placement and leverage than Black. Black gets too high in his stance and his hands are outside on the olineman so he lets the olineman get into his chest and u def watch him thus establishing leverage.

 

I'm not sure I actually gave grace to either one of them and not the other so I have no idea what you're speaking about. What I believe jeh is referring to, and I was agreeing with is that Black is a young player with potential who should be given the latitude to improve. The same should be extended to Rubio. The overall point is that IMHO, it's too early for a verdict on either player. You agree or would you rather anoint Rubio the better player based off an incredibly small sample size?

 

Right now, it looks like Black can't handle playing nose tackle. He gets pushed around way too much. Rubio looks like he might be able to do it, but he needs to show that against better competition.

I agree. But it wasn’t stated that way by Jeh. He was pointing out the inexperience of Black with no mention of Rubio.

I get it. If he does prove to be the better player I hope they play him over Black. That’s my biggest point. Play the better guy. I felt like Tomlin didn’t always do that. The fact they kept some of the guys they did and cut some of the guys they did tells me this coaching staff seems to be more open to playing who they deem is the best player.

 

Rubio is going to get his chances,lets hope he makes the best of them.
