The only one talking about giving out participation trophies is you, this whole time I have been talking about how Mac has earned playing time.

You can’t say you understand how earning playing time works and then dismiss camp and preseason and also how is he supposed to show what he can do when the games matter if you don’t give him snaps. I don’t give a **** what he did 4 years ago. Players develop.

He earned the snaps he got today and guess what, he earned some more next week, he looked like he belonged out there, he looked varsity. Get used to it and you should be happy because it looks like he can help the team.

Giving a player time because they worked hard rather than because it gives you the best chance of those plays succeeding is the equivalent of participation trophies.

Yes, I can say I understand how earning playing time works. You have to beat out other players and prove that the team is better off with you on the field. These are professionals, not children. If they don't have the motivation within them to keep working, then they can get their paychecks somewhere else. You know who does things that way and has done so for a very long time? Belichick. Check out his ring collection.

Players develop, but who they have been matters in evaluating them, too. Some guys show up in practice and can't make it translate to games. Some get better but still aren't good enough.

Yes, it looks like he got better on kickoff returns, so he can help there. The one catch was nice, but all he showed is the ability to run one route, one that they could run with Warren. Now that Johnson is out and there might be more opportunities for other skill players, McFarland is hurt and missing time. Availability matters, too.
