Under center? I would like to see that again! And play action? Really, just retire already

He'll blame injuries for the collapse, despite the fact that KC and Tampa both dealt with injuries all year, including KC being without both tackles and Tampa being without both safeties in their conference championship wins.

The Steelers are the only team in the league that requires perfect attendance in order to succeed.

I agree totally what is said but you can't the ball if you have no running backs. The owner Mr Rooney should see that if he is paying attention to what his team is doing. Get a good running back, change OL and QB. Conner in my opinion needs to go he has a glass jaw. Snell needs to be played more and to be honest so does Mason.

Didn’t even hear this was today. Here’s some of the things he spoke about:

I liked that answer, can’t disagree more strongly with the rebuild crowd.

What is the realistic number when reworking Ben's contract?

I expect a mediocre 2021 team. Good enough to flirt with the postseason for most of the year, but not good enough to win a playoff game. The problem is that the mediocre 2021 will push our potential improvement one year further into the future. Maybe two.

Sometimes you’ve just got to rip off the band aid.

Yep. This is the year to do it. Cap problems, bunch of old guys need to go, '21 schedule is brutal. Changes to a few coaches already, with Tomlin, Colbert, and others expiring soon. It would take two smart off seasons, with one 4-12 season in between, to build a real competitor. And Art is too damn dumb/scared to do it.

A bit disappointed with Art Rooney's stance here. Essentially speaking, it almost sounded as if he was indirectly giving a full vote of confidence to Dwayne Haskins given the fact that the team is prepared to win every year. As much as I would like the dream scenario of Haskins panning out, quite the leap of faith there.

.... and this is coming from arguably the most optimistic member on the site!

I know the old line about winning every year, and of course it depends on who we can retain, but that list of FA's is huge and we only have 30 some odd players under contract. Like it or not this is rebuild time.

Maybe we should see what they do in free agency and the draft, before deciding the team won't be good in 2021.

I don’t see any linkage between what he said and having confidence in Haskins. What specifically is causing you to see a direct link?

The AFC Championship game was out of reach when Eric Fisher went down, so the Chiefs had their left tackle when they won that game. Let's try to be accurate in how we depict these things.

Injuries crippled what had been a good defense. I'm sorry you don't understand that.

The Steelers had an effective running game the first five games of the season. It wasn't great, but it was good enough. Everything fell apart after that victory over the Browns. They started relying too heavily on the short passing game, especially when they rallied to beat the Ravens the first time. Then they never found it again. Part of that was by choice. Part of it was poor work by Fichtner. Part was Roethlisberger being unwilling or unable to do simple things like take a direct snap from center or use the play-action pass. He used to be damn good at the latter, but won't even really try it most of the time now.
