From a business standpoint, if this was a copier, id' take the last two years of his contract, franchise him if wanted and see where we are at the end. Then buy the copier or get a new one. But copiers don't think or have feelings.

Treating a human like this screws with their heads and the last thing you want is a QB who is a head case.

Therefore, 3 year extension at a fair number plus enough in the signing bonus to bump up the last two years of current contract.

My guess is the sticking point will be years not dollars.

they will try to find an agreement if not they will play him till the contract ends and then franchise tag him , who knows maybe in 3 years we will not want ben anymore ..

I think they can franchise him for two seasons in a row. that would give them 4 more years and ben would be going into the 5th year at 36 years old. knowing ben they may have to drag him off the field at 50. LOL who knows 4 years from now how he'll be.

Understood. But the Steelers are in a salary cap spot and really need to lower the hit from Ben. This is why I am saying it is going to be a problem sooner than later. I know a lot of people think Ben will be OK taking a deal less than Flacco's for some cosmic reason like he loves Pittsburgh or he wants to retire as a Steeler but I don't believe it. This is Ben's last shot at making big money. He is one of the top QB's in the league and still young enough for one more long term contract. He is not going to make much money as a spokesperson or commentator after he retires because most of the country hates him. He is going to negotiate to get every possible dollar he can, even if that means not agreeing to an extension and moving to another team in a couple of years.

I'm OK with him leaving when he's 34 years old. Or at least I'm more OK with it than I would be with being stuck with him at that age on a cap crushing contract. Every player has their time ... and their time to move on. No one is bigger than the team.

I don't disagree with you. I personally hope Ben stays and gives the Steelers a hometown discount. I just don't think he will.
