It's a different era, those teams were already set, it was just a matter of putting it all together and staying healthy. Those players are now older, slower , more injury prone, have retired or need to retire, and have moved on to other teams.

We still don't know what we have on the shelf, this team always takes their sweet ass time when it comes to inserting the next wave of starters. The D has so many ? marks. What is Woirlds going to do?, Ike is pretty much done, so is Troy, Clark is up there in age, Foote has nothing to offer, so he knows D L system lol who cares he's still garbage, the Beard is done, we have a new starting NT how is he going to do in a full season? the list goes on.

Our receivers went from being young money, to retirement money, the RB situation is still up in the air, Ben is older and more injury prone too. The OL is still not set. All i can say is get used to being a .500 team for a while, they let things go for too long it finally caught up. Plus the cap situation we can't even buy half descent replacements, we have to bring back the scabs who'll play for peanuts.

and this is coming from somebody who is 100% Optimistic , I call it as I see it.

I wasn't necessarily a proponent of signing Rolando McClain, but he would have been worth a shot at that price. We've seemed to let a few free agents walk that have signed elsewhere for what seemed to be reasonable contracts. Keenan Lewis, Victor Butler, Elvis Dumervil, Mendy. We have been very lethargic in our free agency activity this year.

I'm pretty sure a lot of posts on the old board said similar things...

I actually agree with you, though, Jim. Last season we had a lot of things in place for a decent run at the championship. Now, we're very much walking into the unknown. My main faith is that the o-line will finally be sorted out, and that this enables us to get some more things done on offense that we couldn't last season.

The defense did it's job last year, Beard, Clark, Ike, even Foote played well last year, Troy was looking better at the end too. As for the offense, they could still address WR through free agency by signing Breaston not to mention some really attractive draft prospects. They still might sign Bradshaw to RB and you guys can put that down and bash it but the guy ran for 1,000 yards last season on a bum foot, didn't miss a game, all 3 of our backs missed games last year but not Bradshaw, he's as tough as they come and he produces. I don't know what your beef with the line is, as long as they are healthy they are most definitely set.

The Steelers are doing what they always do, they find non sexy pieces that fit their system and reload through the draft. One of these years fans will stop being surprised that we don't make splash signings.

    in total yards yeah, but for the rest as in turnovers, int's, forced fumbles etc.. they were ranked in the middle bottom. I could add Woodley as another ? mark ..what if he gets injured again with that gimpy hamstring? there's nobody to back him up, Worilds will be starting. Too many important holes this coming season. I don't see another sore knee helping the receiving. ( lets hope for the draft}

Do you think, when the Eagles tried bringing in these players, that it sparked an interest in their fan base?
Folks the Steelers desperatley need to to RE ENERGIZE their fan base, Even if it means bringing in R, Mcclaine type player.
We have so many needs to even make the playoffs, that it is not even funny anymore, I believe our FO is Lazy and doesn't
due their due diligence when trying to improve our team. This is all I am asking for, at least try something.

I wouldn't have been opposed to bringing in McClain, but not to re-energize the fan base. If that's the motivation, we are pretty desparate. How will McClain re-energize a fan base that's accustomed to cheering for linebackers named Lambert, Ham, Russell, Lloyd, Gildon, Porter. Farrior and Harrison?

But I do agree that our FO has seemed to be a little lethargic this off-season.

This is what I'm thinking. He'll discover very soon that being a grown up juvenile delinquent is less easy to walk away from when you're not in the NFL.

I just don't understand these guys. It's the Ricky Williams **** all over again. Instead of just following the rules for ten years I'm gonna quit cause I wanna do what I wanna do. I put 12 long and hard year's into playing football and I enjoy coaching but there no telling what I would do to play in the nfl. Things like this really piss me off and really make me hate the person.

I'm glad he's quitting. At 23 and healthy you don't retire, you Quit!! Then you call it retiring so it sounds better. He quit on his team in Oakland and that's why they let him go. The Ravens "disrepected" him with their lowball and cheap contract offer and since he was a 1st rd pick he deserves more, so now he'll quit.

Don't hand me this he's taken a year off to get his life in order. At 23 and loaded with cash and an attitude of self-entitlement he's more likely on the road to perdition than redemption.

Either way its better he's quiiting, There's only 53 slots on a team and his vacating one of those will allow another player, hopefully one who loves and respects the game, an opportunity to reach his life long goal.

Oh, and to keep this Steeler related, Tomlin was once enamored with his skillset and even hoped to coach him one day, yet when the opportunity arised he realized that once great potential became a cancer and he steered clear of him.

I knew he'd fail the Ravens too, just didn't think he would do it at such record speed. Guess the big L on his forehead has no limits on what it can achieve. I doubt he stays retired though, he's going to find out how tough life really is and try and punch that ticket again. Whether teams will have him is another story. Of course he will probably end up in prison before then, so maybe he will be "retired" for good.

My thought exactly. Throw away millions because you can't act like a responsible adult?
