If it did happen...i have a gut feeling he wouldnt make it to the Steelers position on the waiver wire...too many other needy teams ahead of them.

Well we'd be higher than usual, it's by record right? We'd be middle of the pack.

steelhack has had it bad for McClain has since he was a collegiate , was in his Steelers mock on another site we both posted at ....

McClain would be a great addition he has been playing what I consider out of pos. since he was drafted , he is not a true 4-3 middle linebacker he is a Mike linebacker ( in the 3-4 ) that lends to his skill set ...even with that one must consider he has put up decent numbers in a system that has changed 3 times in his 3 years in the league and come training camp next year he will be in his forth year as a pro learning his 4th system and still only be 24 years old ....

I would LOVE to have him

The writing was on the wall since preseason....Could have been had cheap cheap...it was obvious they were going to move him one way or another. I don't even know if McClain would be a good player....but I do know was worth the small risk to get here......If for no other reason than to cut Sly and his ST holding penalties.

Welcome aboard DWIN....I liked McClain.....but I don't think I ever thought he would fall far enough for Pitt....I was all about Pouncey and Mays that year....of course I remember at one point wanting Mays in the first...and thinking Pouncey would make it to the second round.....WHOOPSIE!

Never seen anything out of him....I was not a fan in college...he has done nothing since he has been here...he had a rookie season where he was good on ST...but since then...nothing....He is not the future...he is barely the now.. and thats just as a LB....now he is hurting ST almost weekly.....Time to "bench" him and give DVD another try on ST. At least DVD has speed to make his mistakes really quickly....LOL

Also the only other thing about this hypothetical situation here...is if he is cut...and the Steelers have a chance to claim him...doesnt he have a big contract as he was a top 10 pick? I was thinking something like 40-50 mil with 20-25 guaranteed range sounds about right. They'd have to take over that deal if they claimed him...which makes it even less likely than it already is...for any team really.

I will agree he hasn't set the world on fire or anything...but most late round picks dont. However I dont have the hate or whatever for him that you do. He is better on ST than most...while yes penalties are killer, it could be worse. This year with the injuries I think its just hurting him more than anything...i do remember him playing decent when he played ILB during a game or 2. He'll hang around until someone better comes along or until he turns into gold so to speak and shows everyone up or whatever, haha. But for now it is what it is and I dont have a problem with him being here.

I've never had it out for Sylvester, and I've also never seen him as anything more than a backup and ST player. But those penalties are ridiculous! Just STOP IT already!

I figured out all the #s back before the trade deadline.....it would be doable...as the Raiders are on the hook for all his bonus money...the Steelers would only be on for his actual salary....

I wanted to bring him in before the trade deadline so you could get a look this year and see what you have got...is he the guy that everyone thought was a top 10...or a guy the Raiders don't even want......then you could restructure his current deal to keep him or cut him and owe him nothing.

($970,000 this season, $4.005 million in 2013, $5.805 million in 2014, $2.665 million in 2015)." I would still claim the on the waiver just to get him into the fold heading into next seasons camp....would only cost the remainder of his game checks for this season....and would allow a restructure if you think he is worth keeping.

I have no hatred for him...he simply is not very good....his ceiling is low..and his floor is low.....I truly believe he would have been cut this year had Spence not had his leg amputated.

EDIT: Sly has played in 5 games in 2012......he has 3 holding calls.....and ZERO tackles.

    69 Tackles 43 Solo 26 assist 1 Sack 1 fumble recovery 3 INT's 1TD

    60 Tackles 37 Solo 23 assist 1 Sack 1 fumble recovery

One is 4th on their team in tackles the other 3rd

One was benched, One has started every game.

Its Timmons and McClain.....I think McClain could possibly be Farrior like in the Steelers system.....as in a guy who resurrects his career.(jets didn't want him)..is never the best in the league...but is a valuable contributor to a top ranked defense and becomes a fan favorite.

Im with Hack its a no brainer, but that only means we wont do it. Its like not taking Burfict in the draft.Foote needs to be replaced sooner than later.

I hope we pick up McClain as well. I was hoping we would get him in the draft, but I think he was taking way too early. But two things prevent this. 1.Amount of cap space that we have to spend. 2. Him falling to us that far down the waiver wire.

I think McClain has talent, just was in the wrong defense, and if Keith Butler, got his hands on him, he could help him a lot. Just look at Harrison, he didn't exactly bust into starting status right from the get go.

I don't know about this after reading some of what the Raiders fans have to say about him. They all seem delighted that he's gone. They say he's a quitter. They say he's horrible against the run. Apparently the reason he's not gonna be a Raider anymore is he was kicked out of their facility a couple of days ago. If a guy is too thuggish for the Raiders that's a pretty big red flag.
