Ben isn't going anywhere for the rest of his career. He is and should be a Steeler for the rest of his career. Furthermore I don't want to see him leave him leave till he's done but that's just me.

#7 is one tough hombre, but keep in mind
the hits that this man has taken over his career.
He may have 3 good years left, his body is breaking DOWN. Will he get another 102?

A nice debate there. My view on the matter is almost fully aligned with contract's position. Ben is the guy, and our high picks should be invested in making the team around him better until it's certain that he's moving on. We're on the cusp of having championship talent again (if we don't blow it by doing more Gilbert-esque contracts), and we need to go for it. The chance of a 1st round QB being a bust is pretty high, and unless you're sitting there on draft day with an Andrew Luck type of sure thing available, it would be wasteful to spend a 1st rounder on one until we need one.

At one time I loved Ben and thought he was one of the best QB's in the league. His play however is too inconsistent anymore and has been going down hill since 2010. As much as I hate to think this its time to face reality and realize that Ben leading us to any more super bowl days are long over. Next year if we sign him to a Flacco like contract it will be a huge mistake and cast our team even deeper into mediocrity. We need to draft a qb next year and hope for the best.

So, who do you take? This year's QB crop is dicey at best. Mariota is a top 3 pick (well out of our reach), and is no sure thing. Beyond him you've got guys like Winston (off the field issues galore), Brett Hundley (improving, but more of a runner) and Bryce Petty (running QB, may be a product of his system). There are some talented guys out there, but each one of them is at best a 50/50 prospect in my mind.

I just don't see Ben going anywhere. I think because the organization has stood by him during some rough times, and because I really believe he loves being a Steeler, that he'll work something out when the time comes.

This is my thought. It's the most economical. Ben would cry a hissy fit if this happens.

As would any other QB. Rooneys will never do that to him, he'll be signed during the next offseason.

Ben doesn't have to be the guy if we put a team around him... look at Jon Elway and the Broncos. Elway just had to be a game manager.

    TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!

I don't know if its age or not but Ben seems reluctant and noticeably slower when forced out of the pocket. I have seen plays this year when been should have stepped forward and taken off for yardage because of coverage on the receiver HOWEVER he instead has hesitated and taken the sack.

I'm also going to say something that some of you will disagree with but its my opinion. I NEVER THOUGHT BEN WAS A GREAT POCKET PASSER. I used to think that he was always a tad late on his reads, non trusting of throwing to an area where the receiver is supposed to be (another reason for so many sacks), and he has the tendency to miss badly on the deep bomb (overthrow and underthrow). How many times in the past 3 years have we said to ourselves whew that was a poor throw by Ben? When has Ben ever mastered the end zone fade route with a receiver? Deep sideline pass? back shoulder pass? I believe that MOST of our TD's this year have come when Ben improvises and makes something happen or extends the play (this is why AB is as valuable as Hinds Ward was).

As Ben gets older he will be relegated to pure pocket passer which is something that he's not a top tier QB at. Is he going to be worth 20 plus million beyond the next 3 years, I DOUBT IT but we seem to OVERPAY our veterans anyway

I haven't reviewed this draft class top QB prospects yet but I think you have to look deeper then the guys that get touted the most. For me, I was never sold on any of the top QB's this year, felt all along Bortles and Garoppolo had the most potential. See how that plays out.

That being said, we won't be taking a QB next year, nor should we.

I agree with everything except the forgiveness part.

Since then Ben has been a model player, settled down with his dogs, and a wife and the kids (the whole perfect scene) so they can chalk it up to "youthful indiscretions". They aren't the only owners, and not since Bradshaw has there been that one rallying voice (of a veteran player) that could be used as a shining example. Does Ben fade away or do we continue to see him at games, being honored with other past players?

The owners are going to look into the long term product the Ben represents.

The Steelers Org. once used to be that shining example and we were all proud to say that the Rooney's wouldn't put up with scheisse. Things are different now, though, and I don't believe that the Rooney's are happy with that but would look to those "grand ol' days" with reverance, wondering how to get back to it.

    Just a theory.

What I am reading into this is they kept Favre one year too long.

Well if Ben is not going anywhere, neither is this team. He is getting slower and getting sacked more.

Sacks are about the same and his numbers are great. Team is going no where without him.

Not so sure they sign him long term...I think it depends on this season....If Ben can lead us into the playoffs and have some success then I think the team will be comfortable signing him long term....If he can't the Team may think rebuild mode.

We all know the D is not as good as it used to be , but we should be explosive on offense and we have the stats to prove it ,,,we just can't ring up the scoreboard IMO that relates directly to the Team leader or Offensive general and that man is Big Ben...

When Ben talks crazy talk about him wanting to throw it because that's what the D gave him and not having success and saying he wouldn't change a thing puts him in a spot light is Ben the reason this Team can't score in the Redzone ? I am not saying he is the reason ,but I am starting to wonder ....

Actually it would be 3 years too long then. But in 2007 Favre led the Packers to a 13-3 record and to the NFC Championship game.

But valid point anyway. Once you decide that it's time to draft an heir ... it's time to depose the current QB.

Ben actually gets sacked at a lower rate (sacks as a percentage of pass attempts) now than when he was younger. He's at 7.8% so far this season ... which is lower than in any of his first 6 seasons.

Yeah, I'm as shocked as you are.
