I was looking at the numbers and was surprised to see Ben's postseason stats.

25 TD's 23 Int's with a QB rating of 84.3. Injuries aside, that is pretty inconsistent.

Joe Flacco set the world on fire in the post season (2013) and it cost the Ravens dearly.

He's still won one Super Bowl. I'll make the safe bet that he never returns to the big game.

Last time I checked Ben's been to 3 and won 2.

The only person with a better resume out there in the guy up New England.

Maybe Eli Manning, but look at how well he played this year.

The big knock on Ben is no Super Bowl MVPs. IMO, Santonio Holmes was phenomenal in XLIII, but Roethlisberger should have won MVP for that Super Bowl.

Other than the last drive of that Super Bowl, he's been pretty awful in Super Bowls.

But still, he's made some big moments in playoff games to get the teams to the Super Bowl.

A lot better than O'Donnell, or Kordell Stewart could ever do.

You want to see some bad choke jobs, look at the 1997 AFCCG against the Broncos and AFCCG 01 against the Pats.
Those were some hard core Stewart choke jobs. He was a guy who never did well in the pressure of big games.

All they had to do vs. the Broncos was hand the ball to Bettis and he could have scored. Instead, Kordell tried to throw a ball into triple coverage.

That call was almost as bad as Seahawks's decision not to run Lynch vs. Pats.

Kordell was trying to hit Burress over the middle vs. Patriots.... made an inaccurate throw, the rest is history.

Interesting to bring this to the table, SteelerJJ.

But those are pretty tricky stats. Rating can't say everything about performance.
How many games are we talking about?

You need to look at it from several angles:
    1) span of 5 years
    2) outliers set apart (3+ TD, 2+ ints)
    3) Wins vs losses
    4) WC / Div / AFC Championship / SB

Haven't seen them, but I can figure out that he has:
-Better rating in the last X years rather than his first 5
-Thrown way less passes in W than in L (and that disturbes the rating)
    - WC and Div have a bigger sample. Try using only those

By the way, does anybody know what's his overall record in each stage of the Postseason? (I do know that SB is 2-1)

Ben could have won the SB MVP in his lat SB if he understood the voters. Ben want 5 or 6 plays like the Holmes play or the Juju play from Detroit this tear type play, highlight film plays. He needs to understand you can make 30 to 40 five and ten yards throws for 400 yards and three TDS that aren't highlight getting plays but will win you the game and totally lock in the MVP.

    3-3 WC R
    5-1 Div R (3-0 at home, 2-1 away)
    3-2 AFCCG (2-1 at home, 1-1 away)
    2-1 SB

    13-7 total

Ben is due a game like he had vs. Broncos in January '06 Championship game. That was his best playoff performance, IMO. When he burnt Champ Bailey with that TD throw to Hines... it was beautiful.

To me this is like the question of is Ward HOF worthy? Stats don't tell the whole story.

But the main stats for Ben are 13 wins and 2 championship wins. Some players ride their teams to one championship, but when you combine that with the number of wins (losses also speak to a long successful career).

Furthermore, should they do what I want them to do, winning 3 this year, Ben will tie Joe Montana with 16 wins.

    Thanks Rush2Seven!

Interesting. If you set WC apart, his record (Div-AFCCG-SB) stands for a pretty neat 10-4...

His first SB against Seattle I didn't think he performed well. If not for some favorable calls we would have lost that game. I thought his best SB was the one we lost. Since MLK day is almost upon us I to have a dream, that Ben goes out just like the Bus did. A ring on finger after a great game as he rides off into the sunset, yet another Pittsburgh sports legend!!!!

Just 3 more wins Ben, that's all I ask.

I’d take it, but I’d rather have him ride off into the sunset a little over a year from now after winning back to back SBs to close out his career just like Elway did.

Agree.... but we need more depth at Safety through draft and FA. Bell needs to be franchised again. Don't know if FO will do it again. Without Bell, the RB situation is scary like the Safety position... back to days of Dwyer and Redman.

Our OL was garbage for most of that time ..it used to get the same negative press that their D is getting today. He had to run for his life before the ball was even snapped.

Then there's injuries to the targets and Limas Sweed probably ruined the stats. Then you have the bad play calling adding up ..the 3rd and short useless bombs and the useless bubble screens.

If you just look at his Super Bowls, he's been very sub-par even though the Steelers have won two of the three he's been in, including one where he was the lowest rated quarterback on a winning team in Super Bowl history.

    Ben's Super Bowl Stats (combined):
    55 of 91 (60.4%) 642 yards (214 average ypg) 3 TDs and 5 INTs -- Average Passer Rating 64.4

    Compare that to Bradshaw's:
    49 of 84 (58.3%) 932 yards (233 average ypg) 9 TDs and 4 INTs -- Average Passer Rating 112.9

I hope Ben can redeem himself if he's ever fortunate enough to get back to the Big Game, but his performances have been overall average on the biggest stage. Of course, he made one of the greatest throws in Super Bowl history to Holmes to win Super Bowl 43 against the Cards, but take that one away and you have Dilferesque performances. Give me the Blonde Bomber in the Super Bowl any day. He came up big on the biggest stage when he needed to EVERY SINGLE TIME!

I remember Gailey didn't get nearly the flak that Arians and Haley received from Steelers fans in his time with the Steelers.

The D coordinators sure did. Haslett, Lewis, etc.

OK, while I would certainly agree that Bradshaw was much more of a prime time performer in Super Bowls than Ben - or pretty much ANY QB of all time, I think Ben has been better than the aggregate numbers indicate (those numbers are heavily impacted by the first SB). In the win vs AZ, he was 21-30 for 256 yards, 1 TD and 1 int, and a respectable 93.2 passer rating - and of course a magnificent game winning drive. Against the Packers he started disastrously, but he also recovered to have us closing in taking a lead when the infamous Mendy fumble occurred (we had closed the gap to 21-17 and were driving), and then even after that led a big drive to close the score to 28-25 late. The final 2 minute drill failed, but my recollection was that nobody on our receiving corps did anything to get open or make a tough catch (looking at you Mike Wallace...). That SB was anybody's game late despite our defense being completely unable to contain Rodgers.

Bottom line: I trust Ben to play a solid game if we get back to the Super Bowl. I don't think he needs to "redeem himself" at all.
