IMO, the best rock drummer of all time. A tad bit better than "Moon the Loon"

Definitely a huge loss. I read an article last week pointing out all of the amazing musicians that are creeping up there in age.

I totally admire those guys who are still touring in their 70's, still have it together and aren't embarrassing to watch. Since August, saw live - Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music), Steve Miller, Justin Hayward (Moody Blues) and King Crimson (Robert Fripp) - each one in the 72-75 years old range and each performed admirably. Throw in Steve Winwood in 2017 - great concerts.

I watched Austin City Limits a while back with Steve Miller and was blown away. I actually saw him open up for the Grateful Dead back in the late 80’s. Hell of a slide guitar player.

Yes he is and is a great blues guitarist as well. The string of pop 40 "bubblegum" hits that made him wealthy in the 70/80/90's really didn't do his guitar playing talent justice. I first saw him in (gulp) 1969 in Long Beach CA along with Moody Blues and Poco (had just formed from the dissolution of Buffalo Springfield). Back then Boz Skaggs was Miller's 2nd guitarist and they traded lead back and forth - they were called Steve Miller Blues Band and were the best band on the ticket. Fortunately (for me) he did play several of his early early hits last month, recorded before selling out to Top 40 stuff.

Back in '89, the yacht I was running was for sale and the broker, oddly, brought Steve Miller down to look at it. Miller has always been a sailboat guy and had a large one at the time. He thanked me for showing him around the boat but was confused as to why the broker would show him a power boat when he was looking for a sailboat. Nice guy, didn't act like a rock star at all!

Hence, his 2nd album (with Boz Scaggs) was titled - "Sailor". Always wondered where that came from. upload_2019-10-10_9-57-16.jpeg

Edit: Just read some trivia about Boz Scaggs - his first solo album in 1969 featured an unknown session guitarist Duane Allman. Later when Boz hit it big with Silk Degrees album in 1976 (Lowdown, Lido Shuffle) his backup band players were all unknown session guys who would later become Toto. Small world.

And my wife always thinks I'm full of useless trivia knowledge. I think some of you could bore her worse than I do.

Yeah, you are probably right. (That was a funny rating, I don't care who you are!)
