A Pittsburgh Pirate hero. 89 years old.

My family went to his golf tournament every year. I only went once. He was great!

I was born late into a family and Father died when I was young boy. One of few memories I have of him was throwing me off every bed in the house (in a good way) when Maz hit that home run.

I grew up watching Maz play baseball. I remember as a young lad buying a package of Red Bull tobacco and sticking a wad in my mouth to be like him. I threw up and never tried it again! What a great ball player.

RIP. What a legend and gentleman. Got to meet him once at a hotel in LA when the Bucs were playing the Dodgers. He was coaching then. I am much taller than him but when we shook hands, his were massive. Could see why his mitt looked so small but what a 2nd baseman. Such a nice guy. RIP Maz! Face and now Maz, same week.

I was born two years after his historic homer, but he was still playing when I started collecting baseball cards. The card had the tidbit about his 1960 game winner. It seems like I remember players from my youth 10 times better than players from 10 years ago.

Damn it, that sucks! I will always thank him for that walk off homer that won the World Series in game 7! Thank you for the memories!
