Roethlisberger, Leftwich, Cotchery.....Do you suppose it's coincidence or the result of defenders aiming lower to avoid the helmet-to-helmet fine? I don't know what the numbers are across the league, but the Steelers seem to be suffering a lot of rib injuries right now.

I was thinking that it's a bit odd with all the rib injuries...

Time to strap on some Kelvar under those unis!

I didn't see Cotch's injury but Bens and Lefty's seemed like normal tackles. Lefty's I think happened on the blindside sack, he got crushed from behind and Bens didn't look like anything, I was shocked he was injured that bad on that tackle.

    Interesting question you raised though.

I have to believe that Leftwich broke the two ribs while falling into the endzone :43 into the game.
He was in serious pain from that moment on.
The Blindside sack in the 4th qtr was just putting a little mustard on it so to speak.

Yes, it is almost certain that it happened at that point. He was obviously in quite a bit of pain long before the 4th.

It certainly does make you wonder, but what are the stats for rib injuries across the league? I wouldn't think it would be limited to just us if there was some kind of trend.

That said, I cracked a rib a couple of years ago and holy heck, it about killed me pain-wise and took forever to heal. They suck, and anyone who plays with one has some serious mettle.

There may be others, but the only other prominent rib injuries I can think of this year would be Michael Vick and Kevin Kolb (in the HOF game).

I don't think it has anything to do with the players aiming lower. Ben's injury came from a normal tackle and Lefty... well... he tripped over his own feet.

I think he hurt the shoulder on the endzone stumble and his ribs on the blind side sack. I think I saw somewhere that he originally hurt the shoulder the week before and then aggravated it during his graceful TD celebration.
