Report: Steelers trade for OL Jesse Davis

I know nothing about this guy. Just sharing the news I saw on Twitter.

 

Looks like he might be better than the schmoos they have. FWIW.

 

Jesse Davis joins the Vikings after spending the past five years with the Miami Dolphins, earning 72 starts in 80 games played. In 2021, Davis started 14 games at right tackle and two games at left guard for the Dolphins. Known for his versatility, Davis is one of three players in Dolphins history to start games at four different positions (RT, RG, LG, LT), joining Jeff Dellenbach and Nate Garner. Davis is a two-time team captain (2020-21) and was the only player on Miami to play all of the team's offensive snaps (920) in 2018. Prior to joining the Dolphins, Davis spent time on the New York Jets (2016) and Seattle Seahawks (2015) practice squads. The Asotin, Washington, native went undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft and was a three-year starter at Idaho (2012-14), playing in 39 games with 27 starts, playing on the defensive line from 2010-12 before moving to the offensive side of the ball.

 

I did a little quick research. Davis played for the Dolphins the last five seasons before they cut him in March. The Vikings signed him later that month. He started 16 games last season and at least 15 every season since his rookie year, when he started 10 games. It seems like he is a depth piece to replace Haeg or perhaps he will end up at one of the guard spots. He has mostly played right tackle, so I doubt he is an option to push Moore unless they want to move Okorafor.

Of course, the question right now is what he cost the Steelers. That is likely two picks gone from the 2023 draft with him and Reed.

Yeah, Davis only signed with Minny this off season. He has only played for the Phins.

With Reed, we gave a 6th and got a 7th so I'm not too worried about that.

 

Looks like a bit of a journeyman, hopefully the compensation was minimal.

Big question is who starts at QB mostly for this awesome run?

 

He gave up 8 sacks last year but... Probably still better than most of our OL

 

That's about 3 quarters for Green.

 

That seems fine for a guy who is just a versatile reserve.
