Plex had 8 tds for the Jets last year with a crappy qb Sanchez. He could help the Steelers in the red zone.

Who wouldn't consider this with Brown and Cotchery out? Let it go he wasn't that much of a jackass when they let him go and he did his time for shooting himself. You put him on the field with Wallace and Sanders, then teams have to really decide what they want to die by.

Plus he's a pretty good blocker and a big body. He learned a lot from Ward when he was in Pitt.

He's obviously familiar with the team/etc...and he's done well when playing in NY (for both teams). If he's still in good shape and can come in and help as the 3rd or 4th WR and theres nobody the team likes better/etc...then sure. Lets do it!

i just read somewhere that it's a pretty done deal. plex would be in house tue. they said the steelers wouldn't have released this info unless it was a done deal. i'll have to try and find where i saw this.

What's sad is I could definitely see him becoming our #1 WR. Wallace will always have his role, but when a clutch catch is needed, it will go to Plax, not Wallace. There's nothing clutch about Wallace, the guy is a bum. He's good at one thing, running fast. Everything else, he's mediocre at best. Can't wait until he's off this team, and I think the Steelers management is probably glad they didn't sign him long term.

no brown will still be the number one but it does give the steelers a lot of options and different formations. i wonder if they are still demanding a two year deal like last time. i think that would be smart if he comes in and toes the line and perorms we have a big wr locked up for next year if not cut him and move on.

Plax will get a minimum deal IMO due to the season being into Week 11 and he can't be as picky at this point. Sit on the couch or make some quick cash? Easy decision

Hey Shaner go over to the ESPN thread and read my thoughts on Wallace and tell me what you think.

This move makes sense. The Steelers need a body at WR and Plex is familiar with the organization. An added bonus is that he and Ben have always been close and should be able to re-ignite the chemistry. I like the move.

Plax will not be #1, he will help for sure but he will not be our #1 receiver, not even close.

Can't even come close to AB's route running ability. I agree.

I agree fully with everything you wrote in that thread. Wallace is very overrated.

Thanks. I was just curious to get your opinion is all. But the main thing is do you think he'll be back next year? If he does I think it will be for WAY less than what he's asking for. Also the fact that he's gonna have to play at LEAST 3 games without the hand that's fed him for all these years is gonna hurt his numbers GREATLY.

Exactly. Chemistry counts for a lot in this league, even more than talent sometimes. If it happens I like the move as well.

    I can settle with that.

I'm very iffy on the whole deal though.

Hopefully he gives me a reason to wear that Plex jersey I got so long ago.

I wonder how Mike Wallace feels being demoted? He sure in the hell
isn't signing now with the Steelers after the season is over.Cotchery and AB
must be hurt worst than is being reported.

I really don't see the downside in signing Plax. He has ALWAYS been productive. He is not the same guy he use to be 5 years ago. We need a WR. I don't expect Burress to come in here and dominate right away and be the #1. What I do expect is an immediate 3rd down and goal line threat, something Wallace really isn't. Bring him in, pay him cheap and let him produce. Then again, the Saskatchewan Roughriders season is over - maybe we can call up Sweed? :lolol:

Now the real question is - Hoyer or Kafka? Reportedly we will sign one. I always liked what I saw out of Hoyer with the Patriots, I'm hoping he is the guy.

Not wading into a who's-better-than-who argument, but when was it that Wallace was demoted? We're down two receivers when we were only carrying four originally, so it's not like we're signing Plex to be our no. 1. Or have I missed something here?

I don't think he will be back next year. If he could be had for $5 million per year, he would be, but he will never agree to such a deal so he's as good as gone. I'm not even convinced Steelers management want him back. I think they understand that the one thing we're lacking is a big bodied possession receiver. We don't have that X receiver on this team that so many other good offences do.

We desperately need a Dwayne Bowe type of receiver if this offence is going to take it to the next level. Look at Philly, they also have nothing but small, speedy receivers, and they seriously struggle at times. Sure, that's partially on Vick and partially on the Oline, but having nothing but small receivers can negatively affect an offence. We need that true #1 receiver, Wallace and Brown aren't that guy. A big WR also helps much more with the underneath stuff than with the deep stuff, and we're throwing short more than ever this year, yet we don't have anyone that can outmuscle the DB's on 3rd and 2.

I think Wallace is gone, because they won't pay him what he wants and because they know we have a similar player in Brown, and we're lacking a true X receiver. I seriously hope we address that problem in the off season, but I know we won't.

this would be a great pickup. he will be on his best behavior or he will be let go. he can only help in the redzone. Ben looks for Heath down there the most because hes probably the only guy he can see since Wallace, AB and Sanders are all pretty short. Plex will help them turn those field goals into td's.
