man, that 1970's rivalry between the Steelers/Raiders was a great one to see. I truely hated the Raiders back in those days, but looking back now, the hatred came from Jack Tatum and George Atkinson. They picked on Swann and bragged about it. I read Tatum's book and he just would not let go about how soft Lynn Swann and Franco Harris were. But at the same time, it shows how Tatum was bitter at the Steelers success. He could not get over the fact that the Steelers was the better team. Any thoughts from those who lived to watch that 1970's rivalry?

"In the 1970's, the mention of Pittsburgh and Oakland meant one thing -- playoff football. In an amazing five-year span from '72-'76, the teams met annually in either an AFC divisional or championship game. The final three were for the conference championship, with the first two being taken by the Steelers and the last by the Raiders. All three times, the winner went on to capture the Super Bowl."

"The doorway to the championship out of the AFC always went through Oakland." - Joe Greene

So long as we win, I say bring it on. The last two or three games have been ugly.

Forget the way back rivarly....they kicked our ass about three or four years ago in Oakland. Ben had a "horrible" game! Hopefully we can take care of business, like we should and go into the bye at 2-1! Otherwise, I will be concerned. Oakland has sucked the first two games!

Uh, yeah. I was at that game. You think it was bad watching it on the tv? Try watching it from 'The Black Hole' wearing a Roethlisberger jersey. As much as I like the Bay Area, I decided to skip that trip this year.

Surprised you mentioned the loss at Oakland (we always play horribly on the West Coast) when Bruce Gradkowski and friends beat us at Heinz(!) more recently.

I'm going and just wearing black.... I'll be sitting in the visitors section so maybe I'll bring my visor but there's no way I'm wearing my black&gold on the bart ride home!

I remember those playoff games in the '70s fondly (not really) My brother was attached to Maddens jock for years not to mention Stabler. Made for some tense times at our house!

I'd be more concerned about the walk to the BART station through that sketchy Oakland neighborhood than the BART ride itself. Never taken the BART anywhere but from SFO to Union Square. I would imagine those trains are policed pretty well though.

The rivalry is pretty non existent,it will never be like it was in the 70's.
The Raiders have been poor for so long and if they don't make it to the playoffs
we don't see them enough to hate them. Remember a couple years back when Bruce Gradkowski (SP)
tore us up, this is what scares me about the Oakland Raiders. Also we always play terrible on the west coast?
How long before we see Pryor? I think we see a little of him this week if Carson Palmer continues
    to STINK as usual.

I remember those games in the rivalry I hated the Raiders Tatum and Atkinson were cheapshot artists, those guys couldn't play in today's NFL.

There's a raised walkway from the BART station to the stadium
