I am too lazy to look anything up but how old were Clark and Farrior when we signed them. Also this is a changing team, we have went from run to pass, then we went from a defensive team to an offensive team, our rookies never use to sniff the field in the 1st year and we actually are spending a little money in FA. The Steeler way is still a great one however the path to get there is changing just a touch.....

I agree; just a touch. But you have to tweek it because things and how they are done are changing.

Yes for sure but the steeler ways has been the same for a very long time. The nfl changing is one of the biggest differences here and it is nice to see the steelers changing at least a little to go with it. If they don't we risk not being competive, jmo

They have signed FAs who were 30 and over, some players are old when they pass 30 in football years, but some players can still play at a high level like julius peppers and others, I dont think 32 is old for a DB if they had a productive year at 31 like nelson did:

Corner willie williams was 35 when he was signed in 04: linebacker mike jones was over 30 when he was signed in 01: WR Lance Moore was 30 when we signed him: WR Terance Mathis was 34 when he signed: RB Deangelo Williams 32: WR Arnaz Battle was 30 when he was signed in 2010:

All those guys are over 30 and come cheap, Nelson is probably looking for one last payday. I'm sure Roethlisberger would like the Steelers to sign Nelson because he keeps throwing ints to Nelson.

Head scratcher, the cards let rashad johnson their free safety sign with the titans for a 1 year deal after he spent 7 years with the cards, a solid cover guy he had 5 picks in 2015 with 61 tackles, did we show any interest in him?

Titans signed S Rashad Johnson, formerly of the Cardinals, to a one-year contract.
Johnson visited the Titans over two weeks ago but didn't find much else on the open market. He made 30 starts for the Cardinals over the past two seasons and figures to slide in next to SS Da'Norris Searcy in place of Michael Griffin, who was released earlier this offseason. Johnson has nine interceptions the past two years and also can pitch in on special teams. Mar 25 - 11:49 AM

nelson would be great pickup but I guess he wants to much. If we had nelson we could live with young improving corners......

Tomlin told the media at the owners meeting they won't be signing a free agent in the secondary.

I say no...with those positions I say grow your own. It will take a season or two for nelson and Mitchell to gel anyway. Why don't we get some good draft picks in those positions and give them a chance. Growing pains vs new team /system pain

The way FA has shaped up for us, it's pretty obvious we will be drafting heavily on the defensive side of the ball. Probably will get a DT, CB, S, and a OLB/DE. Might go for all those in the first four picks. We must think that all the talent in the draft is on that side of the ball and we feel comfortable with rookies getting playing time early on in those spots

we dont have time; Ben is on the clock. We have to maximize our time of having an elite QB. We should add one rookie db and veteran the rest of the secondary; with the rookie being our first round pick.

Well, you gotta admit that a real #1 cornerback, DT,FS and olb are tops on the list. Maybe not in this order but they are the 4.

For sure. I'd say the CB and S are bigger priorities than the other two. A true NT isn't a big role anymore, but someone that could play that role and sub with Tuitt and Heyward in the nickel would be a very good addition. We are okay at OLB assuming Harrison is back and Dupree progresses. JJ and Moats are decent players but nothing special. Maybe Chickillo can contribute. We have nothing at S tho. Golden did fine, but I'm not excited about him as a starter for more than a single season. Hopefully we can draft someone that is better or will eventually take the starting gig by the end of the season. We are also desperately thin at CB. No potential #1 CB's on the roster. Gotta draft someone that can be that guy.

To me CB is a must in the top 2 rounds. I'd love to have a safety with the other pick, but I could see a DL taking a top 2 round spot if the value is there. Safety then moves to 3rd or 4th round. In that case I'd explore a FA at the position so we aren't bound to the current lack of depth we have at the position in case of injury. I'd even consider one more year of Allen if we can't get a S in the first two rounds. We'd be one injury away from a mid level rookie or Shamarko getting meaningful snaps at S if we don't. That would be a disaster.

Based on past history, this happens about as often as the Browns win a playoff game.

If we are fortunate enough to get one of our three target cornerbacks with our first round pick, that kid will start day 1.
