The NCAA is looking at suspending some of their basketball refs for missing a call at the end of the game. If the NCAA (amateur) does this why cant the NFL (professionals) do the same?

The NFL definitely needs to do something, in addition to getting rid of Roger Goodell.

Hells yes they need to. I know people arent perfect and the NFL is a fast flying sport but these NFL refs are way too inconsistent.

I've always thought that the refs would be far more diligent about making the right calls if there was a penalty assigned to making incorrect ones. It's a slippery slope, but I'm not against charging fines for blatantly missed or incorrect calls, particularly those that affect the outcome of the game. As long as it doesn't cost the refs anything, there's no motivation to be all that concerned.

They get report cards done on them every game, but who knows what kind of "reprimand" that may come with their bad calls. I swear Jerome Boger must be in the principals office every week.

Hmmm....I like your idea VA. What annoys me is subjectivity. For example during last weeks Bill/Pats game a ref said Tom Brady was "drilled"...which was a blatent exageration. The Bills were penalized. Brady was barely touched! And on a another play I saw the Bills QB clearly get hit out of bounds IN FRONT OF A REF...no flag. This type of favoritism ultimately cost the Bills the game. I've seen this same scenerio time and time again against us. Something needs to be done.

Thats the new Brady rule. Like the tuck rule. Marcia isn't allowed to get touched at all, period.

Basketball is a sport that has a history of games being fixed, esp at the college level. They need to guard against that.

Now, I am not one who likes to use the refs as excuses for loses normally, however, I only want to refs to get fined and suspended from all calls missed against US (which is A LOT). Such as, holding Harrison on EVERY single play, pass interference against our DB when EVERYONE can see it was the Raisins' receiver who pushed us off to win the game in the endzone, "improperly" laying the quarterback to the field (against Harrison, too, last year. (See how they make up rules when they want to hurt someone/ some team?), etc. Now, if it helps us.... Umm, nevermind!

Anybody know who the refs are for the game in Denver? That could be key.

Ron Winter. Not sure if that's good or not. Anyone have comments or concerns?

I hate bad calls just as much as the next guy; but believe me I'm the last person to blame a ref for a loss. My view is that if you've put yourself into a position where 1 call can make a difference between a win and a loss, you lost already before that call. You win despite bad calls, not lose because of them - that's the mark of a championship team.

Also, you open up a horrible can of worms by threatening suspensions for refs - do you really want them afraid to make calls? That can go both ways...then everyone will complain more about the non-calls.

I don't think suspensions are the answer, but fines for calls that truly change the outcome of the game seem like an idea that might have some teeth. Last night I saw horrible officiating as usual (including us getting lucky a few times, there were at least two missed facemask penalties we should've been called on) and it just really bugs me that it seems to be getting worse and not better. I'm sure all the knee-jerk rule changing is at least partially to blame since refs aren't always sure where the lines are crossed, but officiating in general needs to be addressed, in my opinion.

It was absolutely apparent from the start of the game that the refs were trying to keep the game close going into the 4th quarter.

Harrison was held big time and no call. The fair catch that was interfered with and no call. Ben gets pummelled and no call. Tebow gets shoved and its roughing the passer.

I honestly believe that this game was fixed to keep it close.

Bash away I don't care anymore.

I also had hoped that Eric Decker would not be able to play ever again after Harrison smashed him in the knee.
