Red will do a fine job, I like all our Rb's unfortunatley
we will have to make a decision next year of who will be
here for the future. Only time will tell.

you are so right my Canadian brotha

Haley is an offensive genius. He knows precisely how to use the talent we have and the talent on this team is better then most if not the best.

I just let some of this stuff go the last few days...I know Redman is a starter capable RB,and I had a feeling that he would have a great game....Redman is a Beast and he deserves a lot more respect than some on this board give him...And to beat it all he is still not 100%,,,,we have not seen the best of him yet...Redman gets better and better each season and I stand behind the statement that Redman is a 1000 yard 5.0 YPC RB if the OL gives him space to get started....

I think some people are just so in Love with Speed they can't see the tools Redman brings with his game....He has will and desire 2nd. to none in the NFL at the RB position..He has true Power and good vision as well as Great Football smarts....Redman is a Complete RB and is very good if he had Top end speed he would be Elite.....Thats OK though I will take his style any day of the week and twice on Sunday...

Props to Red, great game, I like him but I still prefer Dwyers style more. We have a heck of a stable of backs though :herewego:

Not changing my order of things. Mendenhall #1, Dwyer #2, Redman #3. Mendenhall offers the most overall, Redman offers more when it comes to tough yards, and Dwyer is sort of floating around in between. But you said it Tomlin_Era, that's some stable of backs we have. Not to mention Batch and Rainey, good at what they do. Great performance by Redman tonight. We're lucky to have him.

If/when Mendenhall has a 100 yd rushing game this season, that would be 3 different RB's with 100 yd games for us as starters in a single season. Has that happened before?

Not only that, but as I mentioned elsewhere, we've had 5 straight games with RBs with over 100 yards combined rushing/recieving.

Yes, we've had 3 different Rbs get 100+ in a game, in at least 3 seasons.

In 1976, Franco Harris, Rocky Bleier and Reggie Harrison all had at least one 100 yard game.
In 1988, which still stands as the worst record since 1969, Merill Hoge, Rodney Carter, and Warren Williams all had a 100 yard game.
In 2004, Jerome Bettis, Duce Staley, and Willie Parker all had 100 yard games.

There may well be other seasons, which I will have to research further.

Redman is the first Steelers RB in 42 (!) years to have a 100 yard rushing game and a 100 yard receiving game in the same year, since Frenchy Fuqua did it in 1970.

Wow, what are the odds, the only game Duce ever played for us was a 100 yard game.

Thanks. The fact that I am old enough to have remembered all those seasons certainly helps, that and my large collection of Steelers media guides!

I know you are kidding, but Duce actually had over 800 yards, and 3 100 yard games, in 2004.

    Many thanks.

You know, I couldn't tell you where my car keys are right now, but I can still remember Reggie Harrison ripping out 100 yards in the second half against the Chargers back in '76!

A little more research finds an obvious miss-

2011 (!)- if you include the playoff game against Denver, then Mendenhall, Dwyer, and Redman all had over 100 yards in a game.

I also checked out 1974, the first Super Bowl season in which the Steelers ran for a ton of yards, with a deep backfield like this season's team, in fact even better. Franco and Preston Pearson each had over 100 yards in a game, but no 3rd RB made it, although Bleier had 2 games with 98 yards and even Bradshaw had 99 in a game from the Qb position.

Hard on Duce today! I know he's a running joke around here (standing joke?), but it's worth remembering that the experiment was paying off before his flood of injuries. He had successfully taken over Bettis' starting role and did some good. It's too bad he couldn't stay healthy, and it's really too bad we paid him what we did. That was the real tragedy.

I wonder if he lost it on a kneel down.
The 1974 team had a very deep backfield- behind Harris and Bleier, they had 4 other good backs, Fuqua, Preston Pearson, Reggie Harrison, and a guy named Steve Davis, who was sort of the Chris Rainey of that team. Davis is kind of a sad story, he was a great prospect and the fastest back on the team, Bleier talks about him a lot in his autobiography. He ended up getting hurt, going to the Jets, and having some tough times in his retirement.

Looking at the old boxscores they racked up some hellacious single game running totals that season, for sur, including 272 in one game against the Saints.
