Yeah it could backfire on him. Redman never had break away speed, I don't think losing 5 pounds is going to help him. Maybe he wants to lose the weight to cut down on the injuries?

Redman losing the weight may not make him faster, but it may make him quicker. If he can get to and through that hole just a little quicker it might help him.

That being said, I dont' think you can look at this and say Redman doesn't want to stay or isn't motivated. The reality is...he is ready to go!

I read he lost like 15 pounds of fat and added 5 of muscle. He had plenty of fat to lose. He can lose the "right weight" and maintain his power. And he also had room to get quicker and faster. Being not so slow will help in short yardage situations, too. I think it's a great move.

muscle is heavier then fat. added stregnth will help in short yardage. did you look at the calves on him on the main site snack? large. lower body stregnth. you said it well,(right weight) lose the body fat and add the muscle. thats the trick.

i loved the bell pick, but someone said redman may start. ( anyone know who that would have been?) LOL. i agree with him. redman may be hard to unseat early on.

i'm not sure of why the hate on him. he averaged a yard more per touch last year then dwyer. he was hurt last year. he had also dropped some weight last year if everyone remembers. he's working on that body and still a pretty good RB. i never did see his beating out dwyer as a suprise. i'd be more suprised if he didn't.

I`m more surprised that Dwyer came into camp looking heavy, after last year.
That looks to me like a sign of a guy not taking things seriously, and saying the right things on twitter, but not following up in real life, with actions...
On a side note, did anyone else see that Jarvis Jones has a tweaked hammy?!?(From the link earlier)...
What is it with our LB`s, and hammys???
    Damnit!
He said he thinks it may have started when he tripped running his 40 drill at the combine.
    Not again!!!

That's always been the knock on Dwyer, he's a slacker, he's been talking the talk but not walking the walk, if reports are true anyway.

And I wouldn't be too concerned about Jones hammy, the trainer who wanted to work with Woodley said it's the way he runs that's causing the problem, that's why his isn't going away.

Here's an interview with Redman from a few days ago. I think some of these soundbites have been mentioned on blogs, but it reaffirms his commitment to doing what he can to impress the coaching staff. We'll have to wait and see how it translates on the field this summer.

Some talking points from the interview: 'right now, the way to impress the coaches is by coming back in shape. There's not much I can do to impress the coaches on the field in OTAs.'

"You come back lighter, you don't come back fat, and out of shape...looking like you haven't done anything...I try to come back and impress them by my look."

He also said it felt like they were losing some of that leadership in the locker room last year, and some guys need to step up as far as leadership roles, and get the locker room back to how it was when he first got here.

He goes on to say that he doesn't think the locker room was "fractured", but he thinks the guys as a whole were taking being Steelers for granted, and they just need to get back to playing Steeler football.
