You might very well be right. I haven't finished evaluating the quarterbacks this year, and there really aren't many that I would rate very high or wish to move up to get in the first round.

There may be a couple quarterbacks that may be worth taking a shot at in the second or third rounds. If the team believes they have real ability, it is worth it to move up to get them wherever they go in the draft. For example, If Chambliss is evaluated by them as a third round player with upside to be a very good pro, They may need to move up in the second round to secure him. It's just the reality of getting a quarterback these days.

Well, the Browns, Jets, and Raiders have been rebuilding for over 20 years .

Because they're incompetent and a dumpster fire.

It doesn't take 20 years if the rebuild is done properly.2-3 years max

And they have only been out of playoff contention for one game in the last 19 years. And there is no guarantee the right QB will be there for them to draft in 2027.

And people thought they were going to get a QB in 2026 with them having 12 picks.

While I dont think this Steelers team is set up as well for the new HC as it was for his predecessors, I dont think it’s a bad team either.

To me they have been rebuilding this team since the Khan/Weidl tandem took over. They have the trenches almost built which is the foundation of any team, you can win games just by controlling the line of scrimmage and they have 13 picks this draft (if latest comp prediction is accurate) to build out the rest of the roster. In addition to the draft they have the cap space to make moves in FA. I want to see if FA looks any different without Tomlin involved because that is the one area I think khan has been failing. I absolutely believe the attraction to aging vets was Tomlin, he likes that comfort of players knowing their rolls.

I know some think Magic Mike is the only coach that can win with this roster but I dont agree at all but a new regime represents more than this coming season, it represents building a culture and a winning team that does more than get above .500

There is really no downside for fans that wanted change unless the new coach has losing seasons after losing seasons for the entire 4 or 5 years of his tenure. Us fans felt Tomlin and the old regime gave us no hope. Thats been restored now.

That hope can be robbed of us though with a poor hire. I want that McVay tree, I think Shula could build that winning culture and bring this franchise back to glory, winning games in the post season again and hopefully that will lead to SB’s. The biggest obstacle as you said is QB, they probably wont find that until 2027 the earliest although I am higher on Howard than most. If not him maybe Willis but it’s probably 2027 where they find a QB.

Again, why not take a chance...Nothing to lose at this point. They have been 49-46-1 in the last 96 games including the playoffs in the Tomlin era....Build a young team with those picks too

Jacksonville and New England were able to turn it around quick with a new HC because both already had a top 5 pick at franchise QB already on the roster.

Because I believe most Steelers fans foolishly think the Steelers as currently constituted are a “contender”. They believe the team is some magic “coaching” away from winning games by 2+scores and making a deep playoff run.

I believe the Steelers are far closer to being in the race for the top draft pick than a deep playoff spot.

2026 - lost in the QB wilderness
2027 - make a QB pick. Typical rookie struggles
2028 - get a real read on the fancy QBs actual ceiling and continue to put pieces around him
    2029 - make a playoff run

That’s the timeline based on years of other teams doing this type of thing. That’s assuming you get the QB pick correct.

4 years. I suspect many of you won’t make it that long.

True..This is why a bad season record wise can be a great thing for the future.Coaching matter too if we look at the Jaguars since it was a 5th year for Lawrence

Bit of an exaggeration there on expectations. No one is predicting a deep playoff run next year but they did win 10 games and get to the playoffs.

So in your mind repeating that and adding a playoff win is insurmountable? So either you believe coaching does in fact matter and Tomlin is some freaking genius phenomenal coach that no one else can match or the roster is better than you claim it is.

They’ll be just fine without Magic Mike.

It can be in 2027 or 2028(assuming this is 2027 the steelers have their QB) because the steelers have 12 draft pick this year and 5 in the first 3 rounds,so if they have a good draft this year, they will not wait until 2029 to make a playoff run if they pick the right QB...This is a big if but not impossible....and if as rookie, the QB has a very good year, who is not impossible in the current NFL and the steelers have a good coaching staff, this team could be good quickly that you think

All will depend the quality of this year draft and if they pick the right QB in the next 2 years

The current roster minus Mike Tomlin is a 6-8 win team. That’s been my belief for roughly the past 5 years. They’re not particularly good and there’s no clear path to getting significantly better.

I do not believe there is a QB available to the team this offseason that moves the needle. So 2026 is a nothing on that issue.

Now it’s 2027. Gotta hope the franchise gets it exactly right and picks the right guy. Hopefully his rookie year goes well.

2028 - best case scenario the team makes a frisky wild card run. Worst case scenario the league adjustments based on the rookie QBs tape flummox the Steelers and it gets a bit ugly.

2029 - it all comes together and the Steelers have something along the lines of the 2925 Patriots or Bears seasons.

Roughly reviewing recent “hire coach - draft QB - experience success “ sequences across the league seem to indicate that’s the best case scenario.
